Hi all, I have just had a mobile mechanic pop to me to give me a price to wire up my phone charger to my fuse board but basically said it's so easy that I should do it myself.. he then left haha.
So my plan is to buy this
and this:
I'll find a fuse on the board that is linked to the key being in the ignition and not permanently live. Plug in the adapter (does it matter what voltage the fuse slot I'm plugging into is?) and then plug the fuse back into the adapter. (Do I need a second fuse into the adapter for the phone charger or do i only need to reinsert the original that I removed?)
I'll then plug my phone charger in using the attached cigarette lighter adapter on the end of it (I wanted to use this as it avoids any crimping/joining of cables as I don't have the tools for that).
I have been told I then use that scotch lock thing in the second photo, find ANY black cable, push it into the scotch lock adapter and push the blade down and it creates some sort of tee off of it for me to then earth the cable on the end of the adapter (the one with the ring on it in the photo)
This last step I'm particularly stuck with. As you can tell I don't really know what I'm doing there!
I'm happy with hiding the cable and getting it all neat, it's just the wiring I'm worried about.
Any tips/help very much appreciated!

Can you not just buy an adapter that fits into the power outlet ?

You can charge the phone from the USB socket too.

Make sure you get the right size piggy-back fuse connector
EDIT - I didn't do this with my Qashqai (for the dashcam) - I just plugged in a socket doubler in the armrest using one for the dashcam and the other for a dual USB adaptor.
That's a lot easier!

You don't need the Scotchlok connector - just put the black wire onto any available screw that connects to metal (and hence earth),

Plenty of previous posts on hard wiring dashcams, including one with
excellent images ; just use the SEARCH box above.

yeah I did see that post before I posted mine but it didn't put any specifics regarding the fuse. It just said locate the fuse you want to use. In that he used a fuse for the dashcam but as well as returning the original fuse but i dont know if i do the same with a phone charger and if so which fuse to I use?
The doubler that gloucester suggested looks much easier but then I'd have to route the cable from the arm rest up to the right edge vent or to the fuse board and pull the cable through there. I wouldn't know where to start with finding a simple route for the cable...

A bit of advice - Never, Never use Scotchlok. They make very poor/unreliable connections and potentially damage the wiring.

I ran the cable from the dashcam to the left of the rear view mirror, across the roof liner, down the pillar, through the glovebox area, under the edge of the console, and finally had to resort to exposed up into the armrest because I couldn't get it internally. No problem...tikigod19_2000 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 9:47 am The doubler that gloucester suggested looks much easier but then I'd have to route the cable from the arm rest up to the right edge vent or to the fuse board and pull the cable through there.
