keyless entry and start not working on one key despite changing battery

hi ive noticed that one of my two keys constantly fails to allow keyless entry and keyless start (unless i touch it on the ignition button first in which case it works fine) I've changed the battery several times and it works once or twice and then goes back to being useless!

Anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

I had a similar problem with one of my keys. It was unreliable in proximity use but usually the lock/unlock buttons worked because pressing them improved the battery connection.
Use some no-residue electrical contact cleaner and gently clean the gold contact patch on the PCB, just along side the words "DO NOT TOUCH" (!), as well as the set of battery contact claws on the PCB and also the other set on the battery holder side and the battery contact itself in the holder. Also gently bend up the contacts on both sides to increase the contact pressure slightly. Before and after installing the battery give it a wipe over with contact cleaner to remove any grease.

thanks so much. Will give that a try. Funnily enough when I replaced the battery once I did bend up the contacts and had a slightly longer period where the proximity detection was ok. Thanks again!

Good luck, and the elephant in the room is to make sure the replacement battery is fresh!

Hmm, mine started playing up again a day or so ago, and I found that a sharp knock restored functionality, so at best it looks like it could be a faulty solder joint or at worst a faulty component. I'll have to get the big magnifying glass out now :(

anyone know how much a new key is likely to set me back? That's not going to be cheap is it...
