We too have this issue for approx. 2 months, slowly getting worse.

We have had the unit reconditioned at glynn hopkins Ipswich but to no avail. Now quoted 3500 to replace, interesting to read its not only ours as we had no indication from the dealer whatsoever!

2015 model.

For the record they are refusing (in a subsequent email) to confirm they will fix it without cost if the solution is not found until after my extended warranty expires. I have already had an update, the radio unit enjoyed a 5 week trip to Clarion in France to be 'fixed' but came back the same and it already has a DAB only station preset:

First of all let me assure you that we are aware of issues you are experiencing with the Connect unit in your vehicle.

At this stage I regret to advise you that Nissan are not able to confirm what is causing the units to cut out or reboot. However, we have assessed available data which suggests that vehicles experiencing this issue are geographically isolated, that replacing the affected unit does not resolve the issue, and that updating software on the units does not solve it either. Additionally, we have anecdotal evidence which suggests that the problem is not solely related to Nissan-manufactured vehicles, and we also have customers who have taken their vehicles abroad who have reported that their units work without fault on the continent. All of this indicates the problem is not related to the unit itself.

It seems likely that certain Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) signals being sent out are now working on a different frequency than before and these may be incompatible with current software – this would explain why it is happening in certain areas. As DAB signals are not sent out by Nissan, this is not something we have control over. As a result, we are working with other experts in this field, including the manufacturer of the units, to establish what is causing the concern and what we can do to rectify the situation for our customers. There is now great focus on reviewing the DAB data that is being transmitted and trying to confirm which signals are causing the systems to reset themselves.

As an interim measure, we do feel it is important that the latest software is on your vehicle as this limits the impact of the rebooting – if you have recently updated the software on your vehicle as a result of a visit to your local dealership then this should be sufficient. Additionally there is further evidence that setting a DAB-only station as a preset on your unit will partially resolve the problem. An example of a DAB-only station is KISSTORY which will be found on your DAB listed stations.

I am sorry that I cannot provide further information for you at present; however I can confirm that we are looking at this concern as the highest level of priority and as soon as we have a resolution I will be in a position to cascade this to you. I can assure you that I will not close your case and will be pushing for an answer as soon as possible.
If as mentioned in this email Nissan suspect the problem is geographical. It might be worth forum members that are affected posting their location on this thread so it will give us some idea of the size and location of the problem.

Nissan says:
"However, we have assessed available data which suggests that vehicles experiencing this issue are geographically isolated, that replacing the affected unit does not resolve the issue, and that updating software on the units does not solve it either. It tends to indicate that something has changed as regards the DAB transmission standard in UK because outside UK it appears to work OK (Anecdotal). Don't think so really. Their Europe HQ should be aware of that stuff and therefore Anecdotal nonsense would not be needed. A technical compliance issue exists or a possible incompatibility within software/hardware which should have been tested for.

The affected Nissan ICE units were not designed to follow an acceptable update path...acceptable to Customers that is. Or is it that we bin DAB receivers (ICE systems) every 5 years or perhaps less? In the case of Nissan its a complete ICE system....spendy junk.

The DAB Transmission Authority in UK (BBC) won't be changing anything. The Nissan subcontractor has screwed up!

We are based in South West London. Bought our 2015 qq about a year ago and started seeing the problem soon after - maybe immediately. We have also noticed the issue when travelling between London and Dover.

I have now detuned all FM presets, set kisstory as 1st preset on dab and switched off TA (all as reccomended above). Early days to say if it has really improved anything, but drove using the radio (dab) for over an hour yesterday and didn't have the issue. I'll let you know if and when it reoccurs.

I have a 2017 QQ, and had a 2014 one before that, never had any problems with the radio reception, but a month or two ago suddenly lost reception of DAB stations - they would come on and then disappear to be replaced by FM equivalent (if available). Told by dealer that this was a software problem and that I needed to speak to Nissan about it. Initial contacts at Nissan knew nothing about it, but then got an email saying they were investigating the problem. Then I got the standard email above. It's not obvious to me that it is a software problem because it just sounds like a reception problem! And I'm sceptical that DAB would change something (in one geographical area??).

Anyway, waiting on more info from Nissan.

Postcode RH12, West Sussex.

I quote from Nissan Customer Care email received today "Currently, we are raising a case to the back office team for anyone affected with this problem. The back office will then be able to contact everyone once a solution has been found. Nissan UK are still working on a fix to this problem and so far have not been able to confirm the solution to it however they believe it to be a software fault rather than a hardware fault. " They then go on to ask for details of my 2014 Qashqai to allow them to raise a case for me. It seems therefore that unless you contact Customer Care you won't be told if/when they find a way round the problem. It's no good relying on the dealers - Westover Nissan in Salisbury from whom I bought the car in 2015 - were less than helpful when approached and told me they wouldn't do anything unless I paid £99 + VAT for a diagnostics test which I knew from this forum wouldn't make any difference. At least Nissan Customer Care is acknowledging there is a problem and appear to envisage a solution being found. It would help if they instructed their dealers to follow suit and not simply use it as an excuse to make money.
I live in Dorset but have just traveled to Scotland for a week and the problem was still occurring there.

Hello,

Regarding geographical area.

We are from the South of Belgium, but we travel sometimes...

Our Qashqai 2013+ (pre-facelift), hardware 031, software D205 developed the issue as my wife was travelling to the North of France, including Dieppe, across the Channel. She had to drive back without navigation system or radio...

I don't know much about directionality for DAB signal coverage but the following links seem to indicate that Dover's range is significant and I infer it might reach France.
https://ukfree.tv/transmitters/dab/Dover
https://www.arqiva.com/resources/docume ... gation.pdf

The problem is still present now in South of Belgium. The audio completely drops after 2 to 10 seconds at most. Frequent reboots.

I guess that via a Software upgrade, the system will get a full reset. Hopefully, being now away from Dover will keep us safe.

Best regards
Olivier

PS: FYI: The simple radio on my Citroen (Grand Picasso, 2006-2013 generation, without navigation) was so-so with a poor implementation of Bluetooth. Sometimes ending in an inconsistent state, losing the connection etc. It died gracefully right before the end of the warranty. I got a replacement unit with a newer firmware version. The new one handles connection just fine. But it can't play music over bluetooth without annoying noises, like a dirty vinyl. The only thing I could get for this was goodwill (the dealer lent me a cooler car for a full week.). Car manufacturers should give us the choice of a plain old radio with a 3.5 AUX input, and a stand to put whatever tablet we fancy.

As regards the South of England and Europe. There always was periodic atmospheric conditions that enabled interference on VHF TV's (I remember it well). UK TV was receivable in Holland for instance and that may have been line of sight rather than tropo bounce. Never did check it on VHF FM Radio. This manifested as black lines or a second image on the old TVs. However, the BBC have issued this reception paper : (Transmitters on the same frequency but distant....enough?)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/weather

"On Freeview, this may result in temporary picture break up (pixelation) or you might receive signals from outside of your area. On Radio, this may result in a weak signal or complete loss of service".

Severity was related to the high power of VHF transmitters..analogue TV. DTV and DAB transmitter power is much lower so the impact should be less?

What can make this problem much worse is the presence of receiver antenna amplifiers (before the TV/Radio receiver itself). GPS pre-amps are in the cars for example because of the extremely low satellite signal level at the planets surface.

What can't be easily explained is why the units are rebooting. Well, it could in terms of processing inadequacy.

So this problem is getting more annoying and judging by the amount if times i have seem this on the forum (under similar posts regarding radio or come type of sound cutting out their does not seem to be a solution although the problem seems to have been known by nissan for some considerable time???????
My Qashqai is just out of warranty when this started happening, (thanks), and i was thinking it was since a warrantied battery change but the fault is random so difficult to remember when started. I need to do something as it will sometimes cut out 3 times during a song now. It makes no difference if radio, USB (tried unplugging this), bluetooth or CD, i noticed with USB that it would stop/ start at the same place in the song, but not sure what that means. the connect only reboots occasionally.

i will try turning of the traffic alerts but the system has worked well for three years ???

Any help or ideas appreciated. Is a factory reset worth trying?
