Hi,

Today I took delivery of my new Qashqai Tekna 1.3T and I am very please with it save one thing.

When I spoke to the lease company they assured me it had Android Auto and I would be able to run Google Maps
on the screen. However when i plug the phone ( Galaxy S9 ) in via the USB in the centre armrest all I get is
a message about the format of the USB device not being supported which sounds to me as though its trying it as
a mass storage device to look for music files and the like.

The Lease company did say it didn't have Apple Carplay and i am now wondering if they didn't know what they were talking about
though I keep coming across articles saying Android Auto has now become standard so maybe I just need a software update ?

The current software version is F216

I may have bad news for you. Afaik android auto is both a hardware and software update. If your unit is not new enough for it then a software update alone may not be possible. The bad news is that i do have android auto and the software version number you quoted is nothing like mine which is "0804".

Make sure ur fone is already unlocked when you connect it to the USB.

Suggest you call Nissan Customer Support to confirm.

The easy way to check out whether you have Android Auto (or Carplay) is to look at the buttons on the unit - and the most obvious difference is that the second and third ones on the left and right have single symbols on them - as here:

The old unit superficially looks the same but the buttons are different - those buttons are dual action:

Note also that the new unit doesn't have an SD card slot.

Which does yours look like?

It is impossible to update the unit by just a software patch. The internals are significantly different.

I'm not sure buttons alone will tell you Gloucester. Early releases of the new connect unit did not have Android Auto or CarPlay, only ones built from Oct 2018 onwards. Iirc it was a licensing issue that stopped it being available from day 1.

I could be wrong though, this is just info I've found from various places online.

Are you certain about that? I understood that the situation was as I'd outlined above with the first J11b 1.3 models being released with the old unit. Evidence for that can be found in the first 1.3 catalogue from September 2018 which shows the old unit - the new one appeared in the November 2018 one. It's possible Nissan simply had too many old units in stock and hence carried on fitting them.

No one yet has reported having the new unit and not Android Auto/Carplay.

If people DO have the new unit then, yes, a software patch MIGHT be feasible - but no one's mentioned having one yet. And getting hold of it outside the dealer chain might be tricky.

There is a very good chance you are right Gloucester, as i said my info was patchy at best taken from multiple locations, none of which are guaranteed to be right.

Question though, if they had lots of old units how come the version number is different from the other old units previously installed?

2015 has version D554
2018 has version F216
2019 has version 0804

Hmmm, Then I am not happy, the unit looks like the old version as it has the dual function buttons but this is supposed to be a brand new Teckna+ as I say, delivered today. Is the implication here that this is actually a much older car ?

Check the made-date on the tyres, that could be a clue. Look for a rounded rectangle holding a 4 digit number like 4718. That would indicate the tyres were made in the 47th week of 2018.
