The manual says not to use splitters in the 12v power sockets - is that 100% necessary?

If the things plugged in are low powered surely it would be ok?

For cosmetic reasons i'd like to plug in 2 dashcams to the hidden socket in the armrest and not have one visible in the socket beneath the Connect unit.

Is this safe or ill advised?

I don't want to hardwire anything either.

Thx, Phil

The J11 repair manual states: (for each socket)

12v at 120W (10 amps and less). So that could run a small 12v fridge I'd say..not a Cig lighter though.

I suppose the danger of powerline splitting is that two different devices could inadvertently exceed 10Amps. Socket is fused at 20A or 15A depending on where in world? Two cameras shouldn't exceed 3A total but check camera docs.

Its safe for the car but make sure your cabling is adequate. Assume they come with power cables etc?

If the camera has a battery in it try and keep it out of the direct sunlight (windscreen)....if poss?
In the camera software its a good idea to select the camera to record only when movement detected. Saves unnecessary processing and power use.

Thanks both. We sold our 2nd car and so had a dashcam spare which is now going in the back via quite chunky cabling largely hidden from view. Neither had internal batteries and have performed well for a few years now. Better still, neither have been needed as such apart from catching the odd pillock doing something stupid.
