My new car, just 7 weeks old with 530 miles on the clock went crazy this morning. All kinds of messages flashing like key not detected, incorrect key code and stop/start error. Connect unit wouldn’t connect,.electric seats wouldn’t operate.
Called RAC who said battery was totally flat (it seemed fine yesterday afternoon). Ran diagnostics and said he could only get the charge up to 49% and that it was showing a drain of 3.49 volts and should be 0.5 volts.
Said he couldn’t get it show replacement needed so he couldn’t replace it.
Marked up his report that he told me to take into the dealer for further testing as he wasn’t happy with it.
Rang my local dealer and after going through the options ended up with a totally uninterested person in London! No appointment available until 30th so fingers crossed till then.
Have had 3 Qashqais for the last 9 years all of which have been faultless and never have l had to speak to someone on London to get service.
Not impressed.

Hi Probyan, sorry to hear of your troubles, hopefully a new battery will be the end of it. What battery do you have fitted, ie make etc

Will have a look what the battery is tomorrow. I know it’s not one of the notoriously bad ones beginning with F.
Dealer is the Oldham branch of Nissan Westway and I’v always found them very good when you speak to them face to face. It annoys me that apparently you now can’t speak to them by phone if you choose the Service option from the menu.

Ur referring to Fiamm, yes I had one of those replaced on my previous QQ. The latest one is a Varta.

My battery is also a Flamm.
32000 miles and 2 years of trouble free motoring - they aren't all duff, although the evidence suggests that most are pretty poor

The battery is a Varta branded Renault Nissan.
I also traded in my previous Qashqai with a 3 year old Flaam!

Now hopefully sorted. Went crazy again this morning with no key present and various other messages.
Called RAC out again and this time the battery test came up with ‘replace battery ‘ so battery duly replaced.
Not good for a car with only 600 miles on the clock. Just got to be really thankful for the breakdown cover which comes with the purchase.
Now need to cancel my appointment for the 30th.

I've been tempted to wonder "how old are these batteries ??"
Have some been sat on a shelf for a few years, then in a car in a field for a month somewhere in England ?
Or are they batteries made towards the final shift on the last day of the working week ?
(think of all those appalling British Leyland Friday afternoon travesties - the Allegro might have been a decent car if it had been made in Germany)

I'm sure Nissan work to the principles of "Just In Time" but I bet the battery manufacturer makes 100's or more per day and they can't all go directly into a car. Not all those car can go directly to a customer.

Seems the RAC diagnostics is pretty crap. Battery capacity less than 50% and no call to replace. Odd really as I think it was the likes of them some years back that changed a battery at the drop of a hat....or just for turning up?
