Just got an update to Android Auto which at first just looked like a bug fix update BUT in the settings was an option to 'try' the new version right away. It worked and shows the revised software when i connected to the car.

Version 4.5.592854.

Rushing upstairs to update my phone!

Well I updated via Google Play Store and now have Version 4.5.592854-release on my Samsung Galaxy S8

....... but it's just the same on phone or car!!!!!!!!!

And I can't find anything in Settings!

Here's the setting I found (the top one). The mobile app is no different and will eventually be withdrawn so it only works via car screens.

Thank you for posting that screenshot - my phone's settings screen doesn't have that option - even after updating.

I also don't have the "Automatically resume media" option either (which might be part of the new software, the option only appearing once you've enabled it).

Info re its disappearance - Google seem to be shooting themselves in the foot here?

It did appear once before and was then withdrawn, perhaps they've done it again. I'll certainly be cautious before accepting any new updates in case i lose it!

It was still working as of this morning so perhaps i get to keep it.

The update arrived on my car today!

Interestingly the buttons are in a different order than yours! Mirrored:
