It looks at last that manufactures are beginning to address this problem of Intelligent Keys JLR for instance - might be of interest - Dave
The car industry is improving the security of its wireless technology. The latest Jaguar and Land Rover models use a more secure ultra-wide bandwidth (UWB) system, while some car brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz are using tech such as motion sensors — meaning the wireless fob can’t be used to unlock and start a car if it’s stationary. UWB appears to be a successful solution at present. The three vehicles ADAC (Germany) found weren’t at risk of relay theft attacks were the pure-electric Jaguar I-Pace, and the latest versions of the Land Rover Discovery and the Range Rover.

The technology, ultra wideband, or UWB, lets you pinpoint the exact location of phones, key fobs and tracking tags, helping you find lost dogs or automatically unlock your car. UWB calculates precise locations by measuring how long it takes super-short radio pulses to travel between devices. It's well suited to Apple's rumored tracker tags. But UWB could also bring new smarts to your house, car and devices although limited at present.
