DRL install

Hey, I'm not the best at wiring but I want to retrofit some DRLs. The issue I'm having is making them automatically deactivate when the main lights come on.

I considered using a relay and splitting the main light wire, running a cable to (COM) and have the power running to the DRLs from (NC).

Please be gentle with me, like stated above I'm a newb at wiring and electrics.

Thanks for the welcome Dave, it seems that may have to be the case if no one gets back to me soon. I'm rubbish with electrics so don't want to just so it and set my car alight or something lol

What QQ and trim do you have? How do you want that DRL will operate? Write some more details.

It's a j10 1.5 sci acenta.

I want the DRL to work when the headlights are off (because it's illegal apparently to use them at night). So as described above if have com hooked to the live for the headlights (since they come on automatically at night) and the live for the lights (hooked to NC) from a accessories fuse. the led strips have a indicator function too so is just tap into the live for the indicator for that.

I just wondered if that would work or I'm stupid lol

I wouldn’t be afraid running it all the time, it anyhow will not be bright enough, neither blinding oncoming traffic. Have you tried to turn it on?

I tested them on a battery and I'm test fitting them tomorrow, the police around near me can be quite unreasonable. That's why I thought up the relay idea.

The turn signal and main light are actually very bright, your right though very unlikely to blind anyone specially where they'd be fitted (above the light)
