Continuing from here: https://www.qashqaiforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=8966&p=71358#p71358

Of interest to some and particularly those unexpectedly loosing battery power perhaps. There is a fair few of these Jump Starter Units on the market and that dangerous place eBay. From about £50 to £150 and some fake no doubt. I've tended to ignore them because they simply look too small for the engine start job. Not so it appears...capacitors have changed dramatically from early days.

Capacitors since their advent have always leaked the charge they hold...fairly quickly. These Super Capacitors don't leak much at all and can remain almost fully charged for 10 days.....perhaps more. If integrated with the vehicle power system can be useful for a very long time.

The first video after a bit of chat strips such a unit down and reveals 5 High Capacity (aka Super) Capacitors bedded in with a fair amount of control electronics on top. I suggest the electronic board consists of user indicators etc, thermal and charge control.

The second video again chats a bit but does perform load tests etc with meters various. Approx 200 Amps at 12v for 15 secs which is enough to start at least a 2ltr engine I'd say. No good for engine with problems.

Charging the Jumper Pack:...usually by the 12v car battery/alternator or a separate small charger for a short time. Charge Up behaviour is normally unlike a lethargic car battery chemical process. However, discharge is high power and short yet enough to turn a starter motor and engine sufficiently to start. Surprisingly effective in fact.

I do not sponsor what follows and do not know if whats on the market is safe...yet. Its likely the electronics board will fizzle first before anything else happens.

Ok... actually that unit bothers me a bit because I cannot find much about it. Does it have Super Caps as described in my post above?

I'd say test it on an older non electronic car, not like a QQ if you can?

Fully charge the Jump Starter

The aim is to test the Jump Starter with the car battery disconnected from the car electrics. You don't want any assistance from the installed car battery really.

Sorry for the late reply been at a funeral today!
I bought this unit from Amazon thinking it must be good, unit got 5 stars etc.
The Yaber units seem to get a good name (on amazon anyway)
It was on a great deal blah blah, the reviews I read were very positive and all were recent i.e. Sept / Oct / Nov!
I tried to find out more info but none more to be found, now I am starting to wonder..........
Thanks for the heads up!
Cheers

Bobby, they have a new Facebook website...China and not exactly inspiring:

https://www.facebook.com/Yaber.official/

I've just sent them a message about Super Caps.

We'll see maybe?

It could be a flat Super Capacitor Bobby. Should be both Battery and Capacitors anyway...I don't think so by the dimensions and the battery being a flat Lithium thing.
