Tailgate Sensor

Hi, I am new to the forum and I hope someone can help.

I have a 2014 Acenta Premium 1.5DCI

Yesterday the tailgate warning came on the display screen on the driver's panel, the Tailgate is shut and secure.

I have open and shut the tailgate several times, tried to lock on the fob and get along beeping sound. I can only lock the car with the hidden key in the flop. I have sprayed WD40 around the locking catchment and still the same problem.

I cannot see a sensor switch that might be causing the problem. Not sure if disconnecting the battery is a good idea or will make any difference.

I also noticed that the boot light does not go off with the other lights, so I have removed this to stop my battery going flat.

Any suggestions actions or what part I need to buy and swop much appreciated.

Sounds as if the catch is not fully engaging at the base of the tailgate opening there is a U shaped clamp bolted to the body into which the ‘door’ catch on the tail gate itself latches. If there is a fault with the ‘ door open’ sensor iirc the culprit will lie with the tailgate lstch
