Qashqai Model: Mk.2 Qashqai Facelift - J11b (2017–2021)

Having owned a 2017 Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport for the past two years and becoming quite dependent on Android Auto, I first checked that the 2019 Qashqai was Android Auto compatible.
I picked up a March 2019 Qashqai N-connecta yesterday and I'm struggling setting up the Android Auto to the point where I've convinced myself that I must be doing something wrong.
I downloaded the Nissan Connect app, which I believe is needed in order to operate the Voice Recognition system, and it asked me to firstly register through the Nissan Portal. I've tried this multiple times over the past 24 hours and I've not received a single activation email from them. I've checked my Spam folder and there's nothing in there either. I've even tried to do it again using a different email address and I still haven't had the activation email.
Am I correct in believing that I need to go through all this just to get the Android Auto up and running and to use the Voice Recognition system, or is there another way?
Thanks in advance.
Lee.

Hi Dave, I already have the Android Auto app from having used it in my last car. Despite this, when I plug my phone into the USB in the central compartment a message appears on the screen of the head unit saying something about the format of the device not being supported?
I'm wondering if I should just uninstall and reinstall the Android Auto app again?

My interpretation on the connectivity of the Nissan head unit and Android Smartphone is that I firstly need to set up Nissan Connect if I want to use Android Auto. If this is the case then I obviously need to get in touch with Nissan over the Nissan Portal activation email issue. If Nissan Connect is not essential for using Android Auto then I obviously need to establish why my phone appears not to be supported. The phone I have is a 2018 LG V30+ running Android 8.

Don’t know about Android or Android Auto but using Apple CarPlay does not require the Nissan App. (which is, in my opinion, completely useless).
CarPlay worked as soon as I downloaded the App. and connected to the car.

I think there have been a couple of threads wrt this.

1. You might have problems getting voice recognition to work in any case. Nissan have disabled it at least in part.

2. Try different leads

I tried clearing both cache and data storage in the AA app and plugged it in at lunchtime. Still the same message, so I'm going to try completely uninstalling and reinstalling the app and use a different lead.
The error message I'm getting is attached.

I think that basically means its seeing it only as a data storage device and not a phone with apps. Mine runs fine on Samsung Galaxy S8. I think the lead is the place to start.

If this is your entertainment system it's the old SD card type and does not have Android Auto.

Mine is a March 19 plate and has the old style system like the one above.

That's annoying. I read an article on the introduction of Android Auto to the Qashqai head unit back in November of 2018 which said that it would be on the 2019 model.
Oh well.
