Hi all,
New here.
I hit a pothole pretty hard - dam. Tyre started going down immediately. Stopped and put the space saver on.
On restarting I now have system faults and chassis control faults.
Warnings lights on are ABS, slip light and low tyre pressure light (to be expected maybe with spare)
Is this all normal with a odd tyre on?
Or have I damaged something?
Cheers,
Zippy

Is your steering wheel off centre when going straight now?

Zippy, firstly welcome to the Forum. Take a look in your Manual or see if these attachments help you - Dave

It all "seems" to be normal, fortunately I only had 3/4 miles to get home.lewisbryant wrote: ↑Sun May 24, 2020 11:44 am Is your steering wheel off centre when going straight now?

Thank you very much. That seems to explain one of the lights. I did wonder how the car managed to read the tyre pressures.DaveBerlin wrote: ↑Sun May 24, 2020 12:05 pm Zippy, firstly welcome to the Forum. Take a look in your Manual or see if these attachments help you - Dave

Would the saver - maybe a different diameter from original- cause the other warnings?
I only drove it 500 metres after the pothole and the only warning I think it was telling me was low tyre pressure.

ABS could certainly be the problem in that it monitors for differences in wheel rotational speed... of all 4 wheels. A Space Saver wheel/tyre combo of the correct diameter should not raise an ABS error though IMO. So get your original wheel fixed up and back on and go for a good drive.
I had similar with a 1997 BMW. I'd used a worn tyre as a spare, only it was a bit too worn. When fitted to the car one day the ABS warning arose at above about 30 mph and ABS was disabled. Actually I thought the tyre was faulty as regards size or perhaps fake. Called in Firestone engineer rep I knew who offered a production spec tolerance anomaly....perhaps the BMW ABS system measured rather too tightly. Manufacturing differences over time?.....
There is a tolerance in the rolling wheel and tyre diameter which the ABS should handle...unless the diameter is too far out of course? ABS is critical to stability control.
