Hi Folks,

I've been looking for a while to find a solid head unit replacement on my QashQai. I've had a read through a lot of the threads here which have given me some things I could look at, however it seems a lot of the head units that have been suggested no longer appear to be available or are dead links.

I've also looked at getting a head unit from the newer uplift (the 69 plate onwards I think), but also haven't really seen any success with this, so if anyone has had any joy with this I'd be really interested in knowing.

I'm ultimately looking for something with Android Auto, and ideally CarPlay as well, and ideally built in nicely without buying a load of 3rd party adapters to do it.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

I think this is the main info/tech post on similar to what you request. Its likely just Android but China has both Android and Carplay units...see Alliexpress link here:

Thanks for that, yeah I've had a look through that thread but couldn't unfortunately spot if anyone had had any joy with using a newer model (from the 2018/19 onwards) in-car system on the older cars, though not sure I'll find a solid answer on that!

There are others on Youtube. Issues occur around connector compatibility and the steering wheel interface. I suspect adaptor cables are available for a generic Droid box to many cars along with DAB dongles etc. Its a risk for about £300. Its rather an attractive project because the Connecta Box is really lame.

I am tempted but my car is still under warranty.

Nissan, bless them, seem to have thought this through and going by posts on here replacing the connect system is devilishly complex.
As far as I’ve read no one has used an proper qualified auto electrician or car stereo outlet.

Good Luck in your quest

You seem to be suggesting it was deliberate on their part.

I can't see why that would be the case. Moderon infotainment is so integrally connected to so much on the car that it's inevitable trying to alter it is going to be a problem.

No manufacturer designs cars expecting them to be altered.

These After Market Droid/Carplay boxes appear to have specific vehicle CAN Bus interface modules supplied. So that specific car commands/data can be correctly handled and displayed.

Because In my humble opinion, Nissan want people to buy a replacement Nissan unit and not something that is (probably) better

But in my humble opinion, Nissan aren't expecting anyone to buy a "replacement Nissan unit" since they don't offer upgrades.

Interestingly my current car comes with Suzuki-branded infotainment, which is actually a Bosch unit. And no one on the Ignis forum has queried a possible upgrade. Must be fine as it is....
