BTW that Varda battery looks exactly like the FIAMM battery except for the Varda on it.

Jem777, just out of interest it is highly likely size wise that the Batteries look alike. Varta Batteries are produced in Ellwangen Germany and are manufactured alongside Bosch Batteries so this is obviously where sizing on this product comes into play.

Regarding FIAMM Batteries they appear to be owned by Hitachi Chemical and they benefit from FIAMM's production plants, sales and distribution network in Europe, where the Italian company holds significant market shares in the lead-acid battery industry for automotive and industrial applications - Dave 😊

Clarios Delkor Range of Batteries appear to be manufactured in South Korea :

The terminal voltage of a battery is rather misleading. The critical parameter is capacity and the test for that is to measure the current draw under certain high load conditions. Something a battery charger or multimeter cannot do.

A battery will charge up and appear to be ok by virtue of the terminal volts..say 12.5 or so volts. Indicating that 6 cells are at about 2 volts each. Depending on the condition/age of the battery that might be right. Until it is used to crank a starter motor. The common fail indicator is for the terminal volts to fall below 12 volts over a short time...a few days. Thats due to an internal resistance increase either sudden or through life ...chemically or physically defective cells.

A battery can be described to some extent as a capacitor and they do have distinct charge and discharge curves which in the latter case we don't want... for a car.

I have replaced the battery with a new one. The guy at the store said the ECU ‘may’ need reprogramming so it knows its a new battery. Dave, did you need to have the ECU reprogrammed?

Jem777, Sorry cannot really answer that question. The 1st was replaced on the old QQ under Nissan Guarantee years ago and the new Varta was already installed in the new QQ when delivered from the UK - Dave 😏 good that you are all set now !

The QQ has a Battery Management System that requires configuration for a new/different battery. Nissan Consult tool....proprietary.

Would this do the trick without using any software? Apparently, it resets the ECU

Car wouldn't start this morning after our visit to a supermarket. It was making a loud clicking noise and the dashboard lights were going on and off. Several failure messages also showed up on the screen. Called RAC and after 3 hours he turned up. I suspected the battery was dead and he did his tests and confirmed that it was so with a reading of just over 7V. He had a replacement battery with him and that was fitted. A much better one than the 'dodgy' Italian make that was fitted from new. Failure was probably due to the lock-down as the car was being left for up to 8 days without a run although it had been used Monday and Tuesday this week. He suggested we should do 3 half-hour runs a week to keep the battery charged and healthy. He also set the electronics, sanitised whatever he had touched and we were on our way. A very good service by the RAC through the Nissan warranty.

Some good news, i contacted two Nissan service departments to enquire about getting the ECU re programmed. Both have said it does not require any programming, everything should work fine.
