When parking in a shopping centre afew days ago, the car failed to lock with the key fob, my wife tried the second fob with the same result. I had to resort to locking the car with the key manually.
Could this be random interference locally or someone with a frequency blocker attempting to steal a car ?
I think the remote fobs work at about 400 to 450 Mhz and share these with other users.
One of my hobbies is amateur radio so I am familiar with frequency allocations.
All comments welcome.

It certainly could be nearby interference from either industry or some blocking monkey. I've experienced it twice in 10 years:

1st....within a UK MoD Research establishment
2nd.. near a local ATS garage

The 1st I understood...the 2nd I didn't and reported it to the council. Police may be better because radiation on that public frequency can be abusive..in a number of ways as you likely know.

A few of these had the steering lock sticking when you remove the key the steering lock doesnt engage and then you cannot lock the vehicle, if it happens again check steering lock engaged if not give it a tap on the front of the barrel and you should hear it engage, if this is the issue a new barrel will be required

Thank you for that. I would never have associated the problem with the steering lock. Live and learn.

Lewisbryant, I have had the same issue another 3 or 4 times since. Your diagnosis seems correct. I came across a YouTube video a few days ago which explained this in detail, the pawl not dropping down when key removed so the locking system thinks the key is still in the barrel. The car is going in for 1st service tomorrow, a year old but only 6,200 km., I will try and get the point across to the garage, live in hope knowing these local dealers as I have no great confidence in them, pity as the QQ is a fine car. I will report back for anyone else who have this issue.

As expected from the dealers, Kearys Nissan Cork, no fix. The computer showed no fault with central locking and the garage foreman said he would not entertain any suggestions from customers. The invoice states "checked for codes no codes present-akk switches working as normal, if becomes more constant customer to return to inspect data". I bought the car from another branch of the same dealer, as this was nearer my home, unfortunately this branch was closed in the past few months.
