Perhaps the best thing you can do is call Nissan Customer Services and see if they can point at competence somewhere?

"As we’re sure you’ll appreciate, it is difficult to give accurate technical advice by email. Rather than being helpful, it may lead to an inaccurate diagnosis or inaccurate information about your vehicle being relayed to you.

For this reason we would always recommend that you contact one of our authorised Nissan dealerships. They have trained technicians on site who are qualified to discuss any issues you may be having with your head unit."

Can I ask whether the situation is further complicated with an iKey or normal key? I have had a few companies ask me this. When I say iKey, they say the risk is much more higher

I'd say thats about not having the Nissan proprietary tool Consult 2. Only Nissan dealers have that tool and associated up to date worksheet/procedures. Non dealers will have great difficulty with modern car security systems and related diagnosis/repair and configuration.

Without that tool non dealerships cannot configure the cars electronics correctly.

As regards Nissans email it appears they are going to be unhelpful and leave it up to you entirely to find a dealer that is willing to do the work. That may mean they are unwilling to work with non Nissan sourced parts and/or any DIY work. Thats either protection for them...you or both.

Thanks, so the more I dig into this, the more I am thinking that the Nissan dealer approach is a policy decision from head office as opposed to a technical reason. So the only way to go is aftermarket. I think the safest way to do this is to read the eeprom from within the radio and re-write the VIN on the new radio. Does anyone know what type of eeprom is installed in the new radio ? Is it the same as the old one or different?

Some success today! I have found not 1 but 3 dealers willing to do this at 30 minutes labour. They said there is no guarantee it will work though but are willing to give it a try. Does anyone know what the chances of success are?
