Welcome to this forum.

The answers to your questions are earlier in this topic and elsewhere in connected ones.

However please note that there is absolutely no comparison between "Nissan Connect" - which was frankly useless - and "Android Auto".

Nissan Connect - it's just the name of the technology but not the head unit.
Android auto - the same.

Every head unit has number and named just "head unit", "radio" , etc

Hi @incipient I can also read wiring diagrams but didn't understand how the old labels match the new ones. Since there are 2 x CAN-H on the old unit I assumed the connections were identical so how did you differentiate between these for example? How does 1 CAN-H feed both M-CAN_H and M-CAN_H_TRM

It is easy. But, it necessary to understand principle of operation of CAN. At this case not important, how you do it. Becouse can system like a ring of wires. Signals will be correctly work inside ring.
Sorry, my level of english is poor((

here are the new connectors. Note that the bottom connectors are identical in terms of connector and pins. Does the bottom connector need any modifications?

Which wiring diagram do these correspond to ? They are out of the 2014 Qashqai so part number: 7 513 750 231 and 259154ET3A

Looks like this connector is PBT-GF30 but I cannot find this in the PDF file you previously attached

If you look on foto with my adapter with attention, you will see, that both ones need any modifications.
For example Pin "auto acc"(7) from this connector of old head unit need to switch to (44) to big upper connector of new head unit.
