Which way have you gone?
Did you change your system?

Possibly a different theme or skin could improve the look.
I was hoping to stick with the Nissan hence the 2019 head unit.
Its going thru various stages of firmware changes. At XDA Developers with smartphone stuff. So it will likely improve a lot before Nissan gets out of bed. Its about £400 out of China at the moment...a large risk really as I don't see manufacturer/agent support in Europe. And the political crap.
Its better than Nissan Connect 3 (SDCard ICE) since it is versatile being Android 8 or 9. Also common to many cars.

I don't know what you have bought...I assume its Nissans faux Android box? I think the cables you need are DIY...the Russian chap made them up and left wiring data on this site...not too long back?

Not done anything yet as still under car warranty...will be looking closer late Sept.

My car is the same age so it won’t be done until September.
I had a hire car, 2020 qashqai, the new unit was so much better so hence this direction.
Prices are coming down on eBay so some bargains to be had.
Just got to get the wiring sorted.

I really need to snapshot everything he's posted here

Importantly this id stuff below. It will need registering to the car which was my worry when he said it.

Ianharbron wrote: Fri Aug 14, 2020 1:30 pm After months of waiting for a firmware upgrade and frustration with no voice control or CarPlay I’m going to try this route.

I’ve bought a 2019 head unit ready to fit.
How do I get a patch cable from a 2017 sat nav head unit to a new 2019 head unit.
Where do I look, anybody have the diagrams.
What do I need the dealer to do, what recording is required.

This has been done before by some brave and adventurous people. It seems the best way forward.
Hi,

Currently doing the same thing.

It’s different for what model and equipment you have.

I’ve got a near complete harness (just waiting on confirmation of 3 cables) but it’s for a 2018 Tekna (Bose,360,PA)

Once I’ve got it working I can share where everything went.

Read back through this thread and you’ll see the adapters to buy from AliExpress that in incipient posted.

I’d avoid the Android head units at all cost. Having had them in a previous car and in my van, I can say they’re awful.
They may be ok purely for CarPlay but other than that they are slow and glitchy with app crashes. (Maybe not straight away but give it a year)
You’ll also need to rely on the XDA forums for any software updates. (The Manufactures were always pretty useless for me)

Stock firmware is what the manufacturer supplies and as time goes on performance is likely cr*p.. And Nissan does that via a sub contractor...slowly. In the case of the 3 going on 4 year old Nissan Connect 3 (SDCard map) there has been no system updates other than maps. The functionality has been abandoned and left rather untidy and a replacement if not 2nd hand can be about £700 AFAIK.

As regards Nissan boxes...my concern is that there appears to be a requirement for a Nissan dealer to register the box to your car. Will they do that for a DIY installation and at what cost? The Russian guy on this thread mentions that.....

Android has a chance but its likely early days via XDA Developers. It rather looks overloaded with Apps to me. I use XDA LineageOS 15 firmware for my mobile phone thus cutting out Google's awkward efforts. Work on that has taken about 5 years and matching Android improvements. I don't need a contract to keep that going.

The Dasaitu PX5/6 Box does appear to be a bit slow here and there but its up to the community to correct that (reporting/fixing). I understand the China maker is responsive? However, to me at the moment its too expensive for what it is and China is a sudden problem. Nissan is simply looney tunes and I suspect I might dump the car first.

Success reported here: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=3465&start=240#p75736

The Italian guy has posted a new vid regarding steering wheel button adaption on said Android Box: parla italiano ?

The Italian guy has posted a new vid regarding steering wheel button adaption on Android:

My box is PX6 Android 10 with Android Auto and Car Play and it's not slow. Installation is easy with all connectors supplied
with the kit. What is there to fix according to you? I've had various Chinese-boxes for a long time and I agree with you on the early
boxes. Not now, they have all the functions you could ask for.

Be warned there are some cheap versions from shady suppliers out there. The Dasaita brand is what I've had for a long time.
Normally you don't have to program anything for normal use. The SWC works out of the box so does 360 cameras if you choose
the correct version.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread (this page) by @Cod quote "I’d avoid the Android head units at all cost. They may be ok purely for CarPlay but other than that they are slow and glitchy with app crashes" unquote

There are updates on XDA Developers - 350 pages of info allied:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/androi ... a-t3575155

I haven't read that lot yet...some of it. Theres also a German site and likely Asian. it appears interest is quite wide. Apps of course can be flakey until they are patched up. The quality of the hardware could be an issue. I cannot tell at a website glance and at near £450 and beholding to China I won't take a chance

As regards performance I've only seen the Italian and some German stuff. At least the Italian channel shows that the unit has not died....suddenly.

Perhaps you can demonstrate the performance you experience? Many would like to know I suspect.

I can only refer to my own 4 years of experience. As I said before, the early units were of various quality. Since a couple of years ago referring to Android 8, 9 and now 10 I've not had a single problem. I'm using USB-modem for the Internet-connection. Either that or teetering from your phone work without any problems.

The only brand I would recommend is Dasaita.

When you read XDA you have to careful because this site is full of people trying to upgrade from Android X to Android X and so on. A pinch of salt between your fingers is recommended when referring to XDA.
