Clicking noise in rear of car

I have a Qashqai n-connecta 2016.
A clicking noise developed 4 months ago in the rear near side of the vehicle. Mainly over uneven road surfaces around town, and very little noise on smoother highways.
A very reliable body workshop I have used eventually discovered that if the rear near side gas strut was removed from the boot lid then the noise ceased. They believe the problem is a stressing or flexing where the side panel joins the roof panel, and would involve removing the roof lining to get at the problem. Possibly a spot weld? And with no guarantee that they could deal with it. There is a panoramic glass roof in the vehicle.
The vehicle is 11 months out of warranty now.
Any similar issues, or thoughts about how this could be resolved without such drastic action?

Welcome to this forum.

I haven't followed it closely but other people have reported noises coming from that area - you'll have to try searching relevant posts - about 6-9 months ago was it?

Thanks. Interesting reports.
The major difference for me is that the noise completely disappears when the left hand side boot gas strut is actually removed!
I’ll keep researching!

would it not be worth takeing a chance and getting another gas strut fitted just incase that strut is faulty

I suppose you can't swap the struts side to side can you?

I think it's unlikely the strut's faulty - I think the force the strut is exerting on that area is causing the aforementioned bodywork issue to exhibit itself.
