These are nuts for use if you use a different hole for the lower part of the gas struts tha didn't have a bolt in you bend the strip so you can position the nut under the hole and screw the ball joint in then pull the metal strip out i had to do this as the ball joint was a different sise thread to the hole you are supposed to use that you remove the bolt from . hope this makes sense

Second problem, I can’t get the struts to move, are they locked somehow or do I need more force, don’t want to bend them trying to make them move

All fitted, relatively straightforward. A lot of force needed to compress the struts when fitting. Works a treat.

Dave, great that the Struts work they are a nice Addition. With the Russian Kit I had the same problem with the Struts initially but there was a Tip to place them on the Floor and Pump then a few times which worked on the J11A and when re-fitting on the J11B - Dave 👍

Same here, had a hard time (and ruined my hands) to pump them first indoors against the floor.
This is import though because if you don't do this this resistance is being exposed to the bonnet itself and you may fold the bonnet when trying to close it.
So always first pump the struts by hand some times before installing, even if it seems almost impossible.
