Removal of rear view mirror?

Hi chaps

My 2008 Qashqai came with a standard flippy lever rear view mirror circa 1970 style, as did most it seems. I have bought an auto dimming replacement but can't work out how to get the old one off. The concensus seems to be to push it upwards, but it won't budge and I don't want to start whacking it of course.

Any ideas?

EDIT:Having searched the web again for the umpteenth time, this page came up and seems to be a good write up to do the job I'm planning to do.

NOTE:

THE MIRROR NEEDS TO BE PUSHED DOWNWARDS NOT UPWARDS!!!!!!!!

First hurdle overcome, the mirror is off. Now, the new mirror which is from a Primera P12 and is 'the same' apparently, has four wires on it-black, white, orange and brown. All accounts suggest there should be only two-a black and a white.

Time to test some wires, but if anyone knows which does what, it would be useful.

Even though my original post was days ago and has had 115 views, I can't believe that I've had not a single reply to my query. Maybe it's just my car that has this mirror.

The wiring diagram for the J11 rear mirror shows only two wires +12 & ground.

Hi chosan, I was starting to feel like I was on a desert island.

I have the J10, but as you say, it still should only have two wires. I was lead to believe that a P12 Primera mirror was a straight swap, which it is... physically.
Out of the box, the glass is dark, but again I'm told that that it only goes lighter once powered. OK, but which two wires will accomplish that task? None so far.
I wondered if the other two wires for for rain sensor option, but not the case. That design is different again.

Anyone have an auto dimming J10 Qashqai mirror that I can buy?

Hello,

I purchased a auto dimming rear view mirror from ebay,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262844782800
Cost me £30, came with the mirror base cover as a few sellers do not have that and you need to purchase it seperate.

I will be installing it next week, I will be following the guide done by butler as he has done a great job and write up.

The part number for the mirror, is, 96321 JD01A
This has the auto dimming sensor, to test it just use a 9v battery.

Get a mirror with the plastic base, as they are sold on ebay for £16.

Hope this helps,

Thanks chaps, I did see that one on ebay but have just found another, cheaper without the base...the Primera base should fit if my part number searches are to be trusted.

Turns out the Primera mirror doesn't do anything regardless of how it's wired up, so it's duff. At least the J10 mirror has only two wires and should have the ambient light on the bottom.

cheers

All fitted and working. :)
Had to get the Dremel out and fettle the plastic base a bit to fit around the Qashqai mirror stalk as its a slightly different shape, but all good.

How did you get on, nitromax?
