After removing the headlining they used a noise detecting probe of some sort but the noise transmitted all over the place so was difficult to pin-point. Previously they had opened up the gaps between the welded joints in the "D" pillar which was a temporary fix. This time after contacting Nissan, they opened up all the joints/gaps and injected windscreen bonding glue into the voids. Once dry this should set and prevent the metal to metal contact and creaking noise.

They did extensive test drives at different temperatures and are happy that it is fixed, time will tell but I can't fault Hammond Nissan for their efforts even though it did take several visits.
It's started again :x . Not as bad as before but it's getting slowly worse. I'll let it develop a bit more then book it in again. At least I've had 3 quiet months of driving :| .

for anyone having this noise can you do a check.
remove rear door stay (gas spring) and test.
when i removed mine (the left) the noise went away
but even though i replaced the gas spring, the noise is still there as soon as i put the gas spring back.
so i guess it is somehow pushing the rear body somehow increasing the stress (?)

Today, I have finaly fixed this bloody tapping noise!!! With peace in my soul, it's a joy driving the car now!!
It took me about 1hour including disassembling rear roof and boot parts and putting back all together. I used silicon odor free putty. Some photos attached.
