Hi all

Just after a bit of advice with my wife’s Qashqai. It’s one year old and went for its first service yesterday. They spotted a number of areas where the paintwork/lacquer has been breeched in the bonnet; either from stone chips or bird droppings they thought.

They are advising a full bonnet respray to stop it worsening! I am amazed that a one year old car with normal wear and tear should have such a high degree of paint damage. They won’t cover it under warranty either as it’s “external damage”. They even accused us of having touched up areas of the bonnet but we’ve never touched it.

We’re waiting to hear what the dealer manager had to say. He knows us well - we’ve lead lots of probelems with our first Qashqai and this was a replacement for that.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Ours is a 2014 Model and luckily we have not had a paint problem. There were comments with the first QQ’s regarding paint quality, thickness etc. Stone Chips are a problem if not addressed quickly and to be honest if you do it by the “Touch Up” technique it does not normally look good due to adding the Base Paint and then a Clear Coat. My wife was in Quality Control and as soon as Waste from a Feathered Bomber is seen on the QQ I am out there cleaning it  . Have you informed NCS of the problem in writing also ?
It might be worth a second opinion from a Paint / Bodywork Specialist - Best of Luck :)

Thanks. NCS will be our next step but just want to see what the manager has to say first. We’ve both had plenty of cars and never had one degrade so fast.

I wonder if it's colour dependant? My black one was fine after three years.

drsas27, could you put a couple of close up photos on here of the damage so others can see properly what the damage actually looks like?

They certainly don’t look good and it looks like the problem has been made even worse by aggressively trying to rub them down. Doing so can make the problem worse as it feathers the edges allowing moisture to get underneath. A good paint shop would be able to sort that without the need for a full bonnet respray.

That Looks really nasty ! The larger marks look like attacks from our feathered friends and it looks like the edges of the Areas are Lifting or feathering the Pearlescent Top Coat Finish. This IMHO opinion is not going to be easy without a Total Respray also the scratches and swirl lines do not look good and I must say that to satisfy me I would look towards a Total Respray (if not this type of effect will haunt you every day) - Dave :)

I agree about the scratches and swirls. They weren’t there before and we think they’ve been caused when the dealership have cleaned the car after it’s service. Something else for us to take to them! Thanks for the opinions.
