Leave battery connected and buy a solar battery charger.
If a J11a cig. socket in front of gear stick is permanently live so is where to plug
in the solar charger.

Leaving it with the battery disconnected meaning the alarm won't work would invalidate the insurance would it not?

Hence I'd presumed he was leaving it in a locked garage.

hi . I regularly leave mine in my garage for 7 to 8 weeks and still starts fine after this time . If your battery's good it should be fine

Uncover the passenger side carpet. Loosened one screw from the battery. Keep it connected. Close the passenger side door.
Enter the car from the driver’s side.
Leave the door open. This is important. It does not work otherwise.
Insert the key, turn the car on, but don’t start the engine
Press the button on the dashboard that looks like a closed padlock. It should start flashing.
Remove the car key. The doors should lock as you do so.
Disconnect the battery. Yes, reach over, yank the cable.
Exit the car. Close the door.

These are the steps that I found all over the internet.
