Seat Fag Burn...Nissan Cover Material (aka Seat Trim)

Post by calnorth » Mon Feb 11, 2019 2:34 pm

Hi...am new to this forum so is 1st post.

I have acquired a fag hole in my 2017 J11 FL drivers seat. No names yet but was not me. Have tried a Chip and Trim bloke but failed with his sticky stuff. It simply comes off despite treatment with his heat plate a glue stuff. He warned against brushing...so I didn't and still it lifted.

This is an anthracite colour material on the drivers seat/whole upholstery. Its the cover over the sponge base and underlying "body in the seat sensor" and seat heater.

I suspect this piece of material would be £100+ new and then fitting. The fitting looks fairly simple from the repair and service schematic.

I have been looking at this problem on www scrap yards here in the W. Midlands area. Most look badly marked/damaged and am reluctant to visit such places.

I suspect I have to buy a whole used seat that at least has a decent seat trim (cover). I could cover the whole seat but don't really fancy that stuff.

Anybody know of a decent used seat (part/whole) of the anthracite variety? I am in Worcestershire.

Cheers

Colin, instead of looking at cheap repair methods (they usually work) or buying 2nd Hand why not approach a proper Leather Repair Shop it might cost but you will highly likely get a good job done - Dave 😉
Although it states Leather Repairs they also do Fabrics :

Thanks for your reply Dave. I'll give them a call. I'd say this was a seat cover(trim) change...but what do I know? Well, the cheap £25 fill the hole job didn't work.

How's Germany these days. Was there with the RAF twice in the 60's and 70's. Much enjoyed mainly.

Cheers

Hi, I'm also new to this forum, also new to Qashqai having aquired mine this week, second hand from Nissan main dealer.
One of the issues I insisted on them sorting before I made my purchase was the rather large cigarette burn hole in the passenger seat. Whilst not completely invisible they've done a fantastic job filling the sponge and applying a "mesh" to cover it. Now it just looks, on close inspection like a scuff in the material. Obviously I've no idea as to the cost but it's a good fix and seemed to be a very common issue for them to sort.

Similar to mine but with no effort from me the patch repair came out within 10 days. Is now a bigger hole and ringed by a grey-ish edge. I have dabbed it with a black marker pen to lessen its stark appearance. On calling the Westway Stourbridge (W. Mids) dealer back they vaguely hinted at another go...they haven't and I don't want amateurs near my car again. So they add to my franchise fools list (Ford/BMW/Mazda/VW). I have another Nissan dealer about 8 miles away, so my business may head there next for warranty service and then my pals at a non franchise local garage.

The patch repair is about £25 by a mobile Chip & Trim person. I found a vehicle upholsterer not far from the Stourbridge dealer who appeared on Wheeler Dealers 5 years ago. He won't patch and will replace the burnt seat panel section. Seat out and stitch in new section for £100. Looks like I take the hit!

I always liked Mike Brewer of Wheeler Dealers using the small companies:

Calnorth, as I mentioned above to get a good satisfactory job done you really need to pay for it and get the correct people to do it as you also mentioned. When I got transferred out here in 1990 I bought my RHD Mini Metro Turbo (do not laugh) over and the Turbo failed driving to the Ferry. I got it repaired at a small BL Shop and next to it was an “Auto Sattelerei” a Repair Shop (it is still there) for Leather, Recaro, Sports Seats, Oldie Renovations and I used them to remove a Seat Panel and replace it - Job Well Done Dave 😉

Thats right Dave and I did similar in Germany with a Beetle interior. Used UK small engineering company on VW Microbus engine heads. VW garages did my head in largely...just black box changers and little skill at that. VW Germany really astonished me as they screwed a rear drive shaft installation and VW HQ Croydon screwed the steering on my VW bus. I just pick them...I know?

I had latterly kidded myself that things had changed...idiot!
