Good call. As the only thing in the wheel arch is the wheel, then if cooling is the purpose of the cutouts then it can only be for the brakes. But why now after all the years it has been in production.

The only other cars I've seen it on are more sporty cars. Can't really see a need for it on a Qashqai, but maybe someone at Nissan did.
