Hi All
I wonder if anyone has heard anything about this...
Got a Qashqai 1.5D manual new Dec 2019, done 7500 miles in 9 months, engine oil low level warning appeared on dashboard, with the level showing practically nothing in it !
Took it to the dealer and he topped it up with 3.5 litres of oil. He says this is normal for this specific diesel engine due to the new emissions laws/rules, affecting compression and breathing (all went totally over my head). It's the last of the diesel engines evidently (something like K9 model I think). I believe he said it will use something like half a litre a month now
Any thoughts ?
Thanks !
Oil usage 3.5 litres in 9 months/7500 miles !
did you check the oil level when you 1st had the car to see if it had enough oil in it then. it`s not normal for any car to loose that amount of oil. it`s either burning it, oil leak or never had the correct amount in when you had the car

I had the 2017 version of this car and oil usage was negligible.
I'd be tempted to go "olde skool" and check your oil at least once per week for a few weeks and monitor the situation closely.

I had the same engine , from new to 75000 miles and only ever topped up once between new and first service by 1 litre , then faultless from there on

To be brutally frank you're naive thinking you don't need to check fluid levels periodically - at least once a month if not more often.
If you've admitted to the dealer you haven't checked the level since you bought it - as it sounds you have - then I suggest the warranty might be voided, on the basis of negligence.
EDIT - the J11 handbook specifically states this:
CHECKING ENGINE OIL LEVEL
CAUTION
The oil level should be checked regularly. Operating
with an insufficient amount of oil can damage
the engine, and such damage is not covered
by warranty.
