Qashqai Model: Mk.3 Qashqai - J12 (2021+) New Model

Post by QaiFan »

According to a J12 tester/reviewer the new J12 MK3 is in fact a dud:

Everything is fine according to him, except for ... the engine and transmission (which is most important to me).
I read that 1.3 engine was great ... but no loger in the new QQ it seems because of WLPT ruling !
Since I now also know for sure that Android Nav Apps are *not* shown at all in either the digital dashboard, nor the HUD ... I am really dissapointed I pre-ordered the car before waiting for test drives and reviews !
Problem being I won't be able to cancel the pre-order since I already signed.
May/will have to sell my car in a just few months if what this reviewer wrote is accurate !
But ... I will wait and drive my J12 MT6 156 BHP myself first (I'm afraid) !
Are there people here who tested the car's performance (and manual transmission).
OK, a QQ *is* a family car, but if turns out to be a real snail !? ...
I was so looking forward to it.

My 2008 QQ has 1.6l petrol engine in it, 84 kW (114 hp) and while that isn't the most powerful one either, it has worked fine for me the past 5 or so years I bought the car. Sure, I'd like more power but the new QQ is offering that to me. And around 10 seconds from 0 to 100km isn't bad in my opinion. Not meant to be a sports car.

And some reviews have shown that it gets fine on the motorway.

I would take it with a grain of salt. We all have been influenced by very subjective "opiniated" reviews on the interwebs, but in the end it's important that you let your own feeling and experience decide.

To compensate, this well known experienced Dutch car reviewer is rather positive about the new QQ engine:

He's weird!

It took him 15 minutes to say what he could have said in one or two. The figures suggest otherwise.

He should have tried a hard acceleration to show us what the problem was.

Autocar also noted something similar though maybe not as damning:

"Despite the added benefits of torque-fill from the small electric motor, the Qashqai feels sluggish at very low revs. Above 2000rpm, there’s a decent welt of muscle, so the car feels brisk, with decent sixth-gear roll-on acceleration on the motorway. You can extend the engine, but it feels a little breathless; and in truth, it does its best work in the mid-ranges.

We sampled both the improved X-tronic CVT and the six-speed manual gearbox. The former masks the engine’s off-boost torpor but suffers from an irritating surge in acceleration at more than quarter throttle that’s disproportionate with your inputs, plus it doesn’t feel well integrated with the start-stop system, sending a judder through the driveline as each time the engine cuts in and out. Overall, the manual is a better bet, even with its notchy action and spongy clutch feel."

Most reviews and test do indicate that the new QQ's turbo only sets in between 2000 and some claim 2500 rpm. That is like the 20th century turbo engines!
This would mean, if true, I will always need to drive sports mode and... Full throttle. I really hate that so called ECO wlpt ruling. God Bless America where cars still *do* have real engines!

In theory the hybrid battery should "fill in" the lack of low down torque. However note stop-start didn't appear to be working on this test drive so maybe it was exhausted?

Indeed, Chrisyork should know since he already had a Cashqai to compare with!
Maybe that YouTube reviewer was looking for more... Clicks?
Fingers crossed, at least till I got mine.
