Hello everyone, first time posting, just signed up as my cousin has asked me to change the oil & filter on her 63 plate Qashqai which I'm assuming is a J11? It's a 1.5 diesel, my question is, judging from some research I need a few tools I don't own, am I right in thinking the sump plug is an 8mm square drive bit? Also what's recommended for the filter, is there a universal tool I can buy or do I need the specific 65 / 67mm tool?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Welcome to this forum.

It could be a late J10:

or a J11:

I think it's a late J10, I didn't actually look at the front of it, I went to scan it for faults and it was parked facing a wall but I took a photo of the rear plate and it looks like a J10.

J10 looks a lot easier, no 8mm square drive sump plug just a 19mm socket but do I need the 65/67-14f filter socket?

if the last owner hasn`t over done it with the oil filter you maybe able to unscrew it by hand, if not just get a oil filter removal tool, not expensive normally less than £15. it will take you longer to remove all the trim clips from the under tray and fit them back on  oil filter is just at the front of the engine near the radiator. you may aswell change the air filter while you have the bonnet up it`s a 30sec job ;)

I did mention air & pollen filter too but she just wants oil & filter done, I'll have a look for an oil filter removal tool now.

Yes - there's a debate about whether the initial J11 is the J11 or the J11A - sources vary.

A bit like Queen Elizabeth and Queen Elizabeth II :)

Well this is getting confusing now 😂 I was hoping it was this

No 8mm square sump plug & easy to access oil filter

I can't find anything on J11a, is that the same as the J11, 8mm square and awkward oil filter.

This engine has a DPF so will need 5W-30 C4 low SAPS fully synthetic oil....don't trust websites like Halfruads as they give the wrong spec oil!
