Hi My first post
My partner has just bought the above but with a damaged gearbox. I have been trying to source a reconditioned one from somewhere. Any idea where I can look please? Also as a MK1 car I assume only a J10 box would be suitable?
Thanks.

Many gearbox reconditioning companies say that they replace bearings based on inspection and need, however I don’t think that you can do much of inspection when the gearbox is off the vehicle.
What I’m trying to say is reconditioned gearbox is nothing, unless you recondition your own gearbox.
I would prefer vehicle scrap yard which is reputable and gives warranty. There is one near Gatwick RH11 9AB. You can also ask if they cover labour cost in case the gearbox is faulty.
I was looking for gearbox for about an year for my Vauxhall and in the end bought Qashqai, so don’t think too much about it…

Sorry I'd assumed you'd tried eBay - found something easily:

EDIT- just noticed they have 0 feedback!
Better feedback albeit not "reconditioned" - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274853458066 ... SwjT5g3tqE

Thank you for your replies. As has been said reconditioned ones seem 1) tricky to find and 2) have varying degrees of " reconditioning".
I had seen the one on eBay and looks like a blow over with a rattle can to me.
It looks like we are going to opt for a reputable dealer scrap one. Thanks again.
