I have a 2019 1.5dci Qashqai. The last time it was serviced (May 2023 - 65,000) i was told that the timing/drive belt & pulleys should be replaced.
I didn't at that time as i hadn't budgeted for the cost. Upon checking the Maintenance Record log book (photo attached), it states "120 months or 144,000" unless driving in 'severe conditions' which would be 60 months or 72,000.
Have i read this correctly or am i being asked to change something which isn't really necessary at this time?
The car has now done 74,000 miles
Incidentally, are the 'drive belt' and 'timing belt' separate components or are they the same? Yes, i don't have a clue about car engines and their components!
Thanks for your help

Hi, I went through this with my dealer, in the end I did it at 5 years as they contradicted the manual, they managed to do all the work and not fit a new water pump so had to re do it all again at their expense although it cost me around £500-600 I believe, Im still annoyed as the manual shows 10 years not 5, I believe there was a post were someone's dealership did say 10 years, it seems as if there's either no communication about this or dealerships are just after more money but then again I hear Nissan may be in trouble financially, hard to believe with there extortionate service prices, over £250 for an oil change and cabin filter which Ive just done at full retail price for £90 and still have 4ltrs of oil left for the next service..

Nissan may be in trouble but the prices at dealerships are set by the franchises which are not owned by nissan, nissan give a guide price but dealers set there own prices
The 1.5 euro6d which is the one with adblue does have a longer change interval for the timing belt but.... under sever conditions it is 5 years, the criteria for severe conditions is pretty broad:
Extensive idling or urban driving
Driving in muddy or dusty areas
Driving on rough and muddy roads
Sustained high speed Driving
Low speed Driving under 30kmh
Driving in areas using salt or other corrosive materials
Driving with frequent use of braking or in mountainous area
To list but a few,
As a dealer, they don't know how you use your car and the uk do use salt on their roads in winter, roads are rough, they do not state a threshold for high speed Driving so motorway speeds could be classed as high speeds, muddy roads plenty of them around, traffic which could end up extended idling unless you like using start stop.
I wouldn't be comfortable saying yeah I don't use my vehicle under those conditions so I'll wait the full 10 years
For such a thing to go wrong that can cause significant damage I'd change it at 5 years
Personal opinion I suppose
And drive belt is the belt that drives the alternator and air-conditioning compressor
Timing belt is the one that is driven by the crank and drives the cams and waterpump
So separate belts
Nissan also say you must replace the drive belt tensioner when replacing the drive belt which alot of dealers don't always suggest

Thanks for your comments everyone ... all very helpful, and i've learnt something along the way!
I've just had a quote from Nissan to replace the Cambelt at £605.58, but when i asked if that included the water pump they said that be a further £308.58 = £914.14
Does that seem extortionate to anyone?

This was my bill in April £589, the they had to re do it as they hadn't put the pump on when I asked them to, thee were going to do the pump for free but I said no I will pay for the pump, they did labour for free as it was their mistake. The kit also included the alternator belt. £900 is crazy, the water pump is behind the cambelt.

Mark65 - can i ask when you had the water pump replaced as there is huge difference in the proce of the parts alone ... Nissan wont budge on - Cambelt at £605.58, and water pump £308.58 = £914.14
The breakdown for the water pump is £130 labour, £99 water pump, £28 antifreeze £51 VAT

Hi, it would have been £642 all in for everything, the only reason they are separate receipts is they didn't do it when i asked at the same time as the belt kit , they admitted that and apologized and they absorbed the labour charge themselves, when they remove the belt and tensioner the water pump is right in front of them 5 or six bolts, the pump was £52 for a genuine Nissan. They are charging way to much in my opinion, call another Nissan dealer and ask their price. Or find a reputable independent. This was done in April of 2024 so 8 months ago. Book it in at Wigan have a day out here.

Ok mate, I just called my dealership and asked the cost of a new belt, water pump and aux belt, £970, I nearly shit, she said all costs have gone up and she thought that was still cheap, note to myself, next car has timing chain, mines due in 6 years but I think it may be gone by then, god knows what it will be then, maybe its part of the forced EV take up, who knows. The annoying thing is the labour for the pump, its right in front of them ffs. Try and find a good independent maybe.
