Update on my situation:

Car went into Nissan the other day for them to look into the oil loss and engine rattle, and they rang back to say "yup needs a whole new engine, collect it in a couple of days"
2 days later, new engine in and all good, it's purring like a kitten again. Will just have to keep an eye on the oil now, to see how the consumption goes. But have to say I'm impressed with Nissan, no quibbles trying to get out of it or saying I should have kept an eye on it, just agreed to look at it and then swapped the whole engine, not even a re-build.

It's been almost exactly a year since my engine got replaced, and the engine oil level on the dipstick hasn't moved at all apart from when it was serviced in October.

Got a 300 Km one way trip next week so I thought I would put the 1L Oil Bottle in the QQ, but after checking the Oil Level it has not moved since the last Service in July last year. QQ now just over 4,7 years old so we are one of the luckier ones - Dave 😊

Hi David, i would say yes, a bit better. At 1st i would have said it was just as tricky as the oil was new, viscous and too clean to see clearly but 2000 miles in and its getting colour. I find holding the dipstick vertically with the oily end upwards then allows gravity to pull the oil together on its downward travel ie forming a drip at the edge which then makes it easier to see the edge/level.

Re dashboard oil level warnings... the manual says yes. "This warning appears in the message area of the vehicle information display if the oil level is not sufficient for driving".

It also has a low oil pressure warning indicator too.

Edit - no need for any topups yet either.

So that would put it close to the age of the other engines that were built incorrectly. Elsewhere on this site a range of affected VIN numbers were posted, that should help, but even then, not all cars in that range have the issue, just 25% of them.
