2016 Qashqai problems

Hi....

I recently bought a new QQ with the 1.2dig-T engine and I'm starting to regret this in a big way having only covered 2000 miles!

Firstly fuel consumption. The best I have managed on mixed driving (majority motorway) is 37mpg which I think is pretty poor compared to the quoted figures. Around town it dips into the high 20's which is only sightly better than my Mitsubishi Evo and that's 4wd, 2.0 with 3 times the power!

What are the real world mpg figures?

Secondly.....The car went back into Nissan after only 500 miles due to a noise. The noise occurs on the over run if revved when stationary, it appears to come from the induction. When revved you can hear the flutter from the re-circ valve then there is a pop/puff noise. Nissan have told me that apparently they all do it? I've owned many different turbo jap cars(and still do) and I have never heard a noise like this through the induction whether that be using a stock panel filter and airbox or aftermarket induction kit.

No Nissan tech could tell me why it makes the noise, it would be good to know if anyone else's QQ with the same engine makes this noise.

The next issue I have noticed is. If crawling along in traffic in first gear and you let off the accelerator, the revs don't drop straight away, they will stick around 2k-1,5k for a few seconds then drop....This can't be right surely? If this isn't a problem then surely it must be a mapping issue? I only noticed it yesterday because my wife uses the car as her daily.

......and finally. Whilst out tonight I had the windows down because of the lovely weather, this is when I noticed a rattle coming from the engine under load. At first I thought it was the car behind but it's definitely my car. Now I've checked the oil and all its all ok, it doesn't sound like anything loose it's definitely engine related and is consistent with the engine revs.

I'm going to call Nissan in the morning and get the car booked in again but thought I'd post up to see if any of my issues have been seen before.

Thanks in advance
Jay

I would suggest that the mpg issue is more likely related to your wifes driving style, either heavy footed or tootling along in totally the wrong gear, which can be easy to do as the motor is so quiet.
The 'revs being slow to drop' I would suggest is normal. It does the same in my 1.5dci. There will be e technical reason for it doing so, but I dont know what it is, ive no doubt someone will come along and oblige.
The rattle you are hearing has been discussed previously...it sounds like its a heat shield thats vibrating, not sure which one though, it'll just need tweeking a little.

Hi...It's definitely not her driving style because I can't get the mpg above 27 when I'm driving it.

I called the Nissan dealer at 12pm yesterday afternoon to try and get the car booked in for them to have a look. I was advised that all the service lines were all busy and someone would call me back. No one did call me back so at 4.30pm I called them back myself, they told me I would be better off calling Nissan's assistance line and get them to come out....Really?

....anyway, I called them and explained there was a rattle from the engine and the dealer advised I call them. After 4 hours I had a visit from an RAC guy who thinks the rattle is coming from the timing chain, not bad for a 2000 mile old engine! He's advised not to drive it.

Calling any 1.2dig-t engine owners, would you do me a favour please?

When idling, blip the throttle to about 2.5k then let off to see if you hear a pop/puff noise....I would really appreciate it just to see if what they say is true, that they "all do it"

Thanks in advance
Jay

Jay, your wish is my command  Just got back home with a warm motor, turned radio off / Air Con off / opened door and Revved up to 2,500 rpm - NOTHING absolute quietness ;) . I do not like creaks, groans or rattles and if the Missus heard them I would know - Hope this helps Dave :)

Hi Dave.....Did you hold the revs or let off when it reached 2.5k ish? Mine makes the pop/puff without fail and seems slightly louder if its warm.

Thanks
Jay

Jay, done both and heard nothing, I would suggest a second opinion eg another Dealer - Dave ;)

Jay, I get just a slight reverberation type noise as a slight echo but I wouldn't describe this a a puff or pop noise. It's certainly nothing that I would be concerned about.

Pleased to be of assistance - hope you get sorted.

Cheers guys I appreciate it, as I said, you would definitely hear the noise if it was there.

The car is currently with Nissan, it was recovered this morning by the RAC. Funnily enough, the rattling sound for which the RAC attended last night wasn't there! So if it must when it's hot that it occurs.

As for the puff/pop noise. When I get a call from Nissan to collect the car I'm going to ask them if I can have a listen to one of their forecourt cars.

A quick update....

Regarding the rattle, I've just had call from Nissan who have confirmed it is the Timing chain rattling which isn't great for a new car that has only covered 2000 miles and was first heard by my wife after only a few hundred miles of owing it.

As for the pop/puff noise, I've been told that the noise happens on the later 1.2 engine and not the earlier ones, my car is a 2016 model so not sure it that is indeed correct but that's what they are saying.

As his is a brand new, that is absolute tosh Iola.
This is a J11 forum, and I imagine you have an earlier model and therefore, a different model.
The fact that your (2nd hand?) QQ has issues does not mean the hundreds of thousands built are unreliable otherwise it wouldn't keep winning awards.
