I made the mistake of driving for a while, as the manual seemed to indicate I could ... my engine would run fine, a bit of black smoke and in limp mode .. but I had a family full ... then after we had to stop for a little person need .... the performance was worse, instead of maintaining 60 Mph with just no power .... we went closer and closer to zero - eventually towed home. Bottom line, but continuing to drive the Air Intake problem had lead to clog the DPF, but there were no DPF warning lights - lots of other trouble codes but not DPF.

Symptom wise so when the pipe was repaired the car would run fine, the dozens of fault codes all cleared. it just lacked power. The local garage was confused. Dr Google led me to wonder if it was the DPF, as did the post above, but no fault codes, and I wasn't convinced it wasn't a turbo failure or a turbo air leak. I was nervous to drive it, but necessity did occur on a couple of occasions over the next month while waiting for pay day to prepare myself for the option of a DPF clean or bore (400 cash if you ask no questions will apparently look like you still have a DPF but in fact you'll be just like an older car and pass the pollutants straight through the new big hold in your filter) .

Then I finally got a new engine warning light, I have an ODB bluetooth device so I could read the code myself and it confirmed the DPF filter, this was fantastic for me as the turbo and airleak issues seemed narrowed, the fault was going to cost me 200 - 400 as I wasn't going for a new 1,000 DPF replacement! I tried a £10 DPF cleaner into the gas tank, and I used a £10 cleaning spray through the air intake.

But when I rang one of the DPF specialists, Dmitry @londontuning to book a DPF clean, he spent a few minutes on the phone, and gave me a detailed outline of what the car engine management system was likely doing, and what to do next before we committed to DPF intervention ... result is the car's working again with no additional cost.

Turns out ... the Engine Management System needs several (3 - 5+) drive cycles to learn what's happening with the car after the trouble codes are reset. A cycle is a startup, a drive, stop, lock the car and leave it for 15 mins. then repeat 3 -5 times. For me as I'd decided I was concerned about the lack of power and didn't actually need to go anywhere so this took me several weeks to clock up ... could have got there in a couple of hours!

Once the car has had a few cycles, the engine warning light came back on .... a check with my OBD II bluetooth scanner, and the free version 'Scan Master OBD-II' (this one works with Qashqai and allows the reset) ... it advised the DPF filter error ...

Once the error has triggered, a drive for 20 minutes - apparently best in 3rd or 5th gear as these are power gears at 2,500 RPM or higher and the regeneration process will clean the DPF.

Bingo - power was back ... performance is normal ... I had to manually reset the trouble codes, and found that it took two cycles of this to clear the DPF ... but it worked. I didn't need to replace it, bore it or clean it... I just needed to give the car a chance to fix itself after the original faulty pipe had been replaced and the EMS had the chance to reset and identify the fault.

Had I spotted the broken pipe... which is right on top of the engine and is available on line for £50 ... or not driven as far with it broken this would have been a lot less stressful.

if you have a genuine DPF problem ... I'd recommend giving LondonTuning a call - the advice was first class, and if I get a DPF problem again I trust these guys will clean it or help resolve it effectively.

A very informative post I am sure that it will be helpful to other QQ owners in the future, glad you get the problem sorted.

I had this happen to my 2012 1.5l Qashqai+2 a couple of years ago. Plastic weld between joint was faulty. (I used to work in Automotive plastics and know a poor spin weld.) RAC guy said he saw a lot of these... Towed to dealer who denied all knowledge , but had the spare part. Repaired and drove off. 5 miles later Red warning light and back to dealer. Dpf needed regen because of poor air mix from turbo inlet failure. :x .
Went back to Nissan and over many calls and photos of failed parts got no movement from them as vehicle was out of warranty and had done more than 100k miles. Really disappointing attitude given how many of these they must see.

Car has been mostly fine since but now suffered turbo failure. I'm convinced that the root cause is the damage suffered during initial air inlet failure. Should have sold the car then....
