Hi,

I have noted a humming sound (like a road noise) from the car. This is coming while the car is moving only and starting from very slow speed (less than 5km/h). While the car was moving we changed to Neutral though the sound still continues. It seems this humming sound comes until vehicle comes to a complete stop. And it is not getting louder with the vehicle speed.

It looks like the humming sound coming from rear side of the vehicle but sounds can hear from different directions, isn’t it. A mechanic checked the car and changed the right side bearing assembly and both sides rear brake pads. Hum still continues and they are suggesting to change the other side wheel bearing as well. When we jack the car, wheels are freely moving and there is no noticeable problem with it. These bearings are very expensive in here for 2WD Qashqai model and now I have a drought about the mechanic’s suggestion. Can the bearing hum start in very low speed?

The tyres are in bad condition though as the hum starting at very low speed (less than 5km/h) it doesn’t look like bad tyre sound, isn’t it.
Now I have a drought about the CVT gearbox. However there is no humming sound when the car is still on break at D, N or other gears. Power and the Gearbox looking quite normal. And while the car was moving we changed to Neutral though the sound still continues. Therefore, the Mechanic thinks the gearbox is in good condition.

Could you please advice me on the above. I like to have an idea on the gearbox prior to change the wheel bearing. Any suggestions please

Many Thanks

Possibly rear wheel bearings, they tend to hum/drone. Hope this narrows it down a little!

New tyres required..............................it's probably caused by slight feathering of the tread. Perhaps swap fronts to back first to confirm.

This was my thought also, and is free as long as your willing to swap your own wheels around.
