Red engine light coming?

Hi my wifes nissan 1.5 dci 10 plate red engine lights comes on when i try and accelerate hard or in high revs on the motorway it goes into a sort of limp mode and wont go ever 3000 rpm. Its fine when pottering around town or when i dont boot it. Had a mechanic do a diagnostic test and found nothing? I'm thinking its the dpf as it does smoke alot under acceleration and when starting up. Just dont wont to buy one and find out its something else. Thanks

one alleged fix is to drive at 2500rpm for 20 minutes but it’s only temporary

Lots of info already on this subject if you use the search button at the top of the forum. It does sound like a dpf issue or sticking egr valve.
Your mechanic cant be that good if he's found nothing wrong at all. Worth looking into a 'Terraclean'.....google it.

If it only does it under hard acceleration i would say it was a sticking turbo. Any fault codes?

No fault codes recorded by my mechanic thats what i meant. Think i had a similar issue with my disco it was a sticking actuator 🤔

There should be a DTC error code if ECU light comes on. Suspicion falls around DPF and/or O2 sensors anyway, the latter raising a error flag. How old are the sensors...mileage is limited to typically 60k.

I'm not a diesel owner but I seem to remember the DPF has O2 sensors either side of it...so thats two. Those sensors will cause the ECU to loose control of the engine if faulty. Or if the exhaust/emission is not to spec at any point in the rev range disrupt the ECU.

In the case of not fully knowing the history of the car check the items that cause this type of problem sequentially. For me its from what I can easily get at first...unless the faulty item is obvious. Suggestions are in above posts and the ECU is complaining (light on). The ECU can only do that with info from specific sensors and commonly O2 in the exhaust system. Look at that system in total which includes the infamous DPF.

Someone nearby in the diesel world should easily pin this problem for you? If you get a fix let us know please.
