Like many, I have had my 2014 1.2 digT engine replaced. I was reading at the weekend about how the Euro 6 emission standard had to be applied to all new registrations from September 2015.

Was the original 2014 dodgy engine a Euro 6 already, or was that a Euro 5, and if that means my new engine replacement is a Euro 6, should my car tax go down do to the better emissions control in this engine?

EDIT: just had a play on the DVLA website and a 2014 1.2 Qashqai is tax band D, and if I select registration date a year later, then it says "Qashqai Euro6, 2015" and it's tax band E.

2nd EDIT: Actually looked at the prices, it goes the other way. 2014 QQs are band D which is £115 (129g/km CO2 emission), but the Euro6 2015+ Qashqai is in band E which is £135 as the CO2 emission has gone above 130. I'll keep quiet!

You would get a like for like engine , you car was registered before the changes took place so wouldn't make any difference

Can't see how it would be a like for like replacement, as the Euro5 hasn't been manufactured for 4 years and they probably don't have any lying spare on shelves, it would likely be the Euro6 version that came along in 2015.

But as I said in my 2nd edit, that would actually make my tax band go up by £20 so no point pursuing this !!

My understanding is that the tax is fixed as at initial point of sale.

The discrepancy you see will be because between J11 launch and, certainly, mid 2015 when my car was sold the emissions figures were changed. In the earlier period all Qashqais were rated at 129 but afterwards Qashqais with smaller wheels (16+17) were 129 but ones with larger wheels (18+19) were 133 - the wheel width increases hence emissions go up. I doubt it's anything to do with the engine; merely the later test for the revised engine took account of wheel size, somehow forgotten about on the earlier test?.

Yeah of course they would , engines are kept in various states as spares short, tall, with anciliaries and without.

Euro 5 and euro 6 will be the same basic engine it with changes to the bolt on parts and engine management.

Do you Realy believe a 4 year car would not have a stock of spare parts ?
