Hi

My wife took our 2012 Qashqai for its annual service and MOT yesterday, and the garage reported when handing the car back said "the water pump had been leaking". Note the turn of phrase "had been". They have not quoted for a replacement nor given any advice to my wife as to what to do next. The car has never boiled over and neither have we seen a large puddle of water underneath the car.

So, what I want to do is get some advice:
  • Where is the water pump located on a 1600cc diesel?
  • I have tried to find a Haynes Manual on the car that covers the 1600cc diesel, but I haven't been able to find one. Can anyone point me to a manual that covers this model
  • How big an issue is the water pump?
  • Do they suffer from water pump leaks?
  • Can the car go on for ages suffering small leaks from the pump without too much trouble?
  • What have other owners done in this situation - have you fixed straight away and if so how much is a reasonable cost, or lived with the problem?
Thanks

Firstly ring the garage and discuss it with them.........

Secondly, I'm no expert so take this advice with a pinch of salt, but I successful cured a leaking water pump on my MX-5 with radiator sealant - the car was however pretty geriatric by then...

Do you know where abouts the water pump is on the 1600 R9M engines? There seems to be very little if any documentation such as workshop manuals on this type?

Googling suggests this is it.

Thanks. I am going to have a look, and see what I can find. I find their comment strange that it was leaking. It either leaks or it doesn't

always hard to be sure when you haven't personally had the conversation with the mechanic but they might have meant "we have seen evidence of a leak (or an old leak, etc. )which is probably from your water pump but couldn't trace its source"
