The car is now in the dealership again. I had feared this would be a difficult, un-rewarding process trying to get any where
The service manager rang me up and there were three strands to his comments.
Its only a ticking sound.
Its caused by the fuel pump
Its not a fault; its normal. There's nothing wrong with the engine.
I reiterated the car did not make this noise when I bought it.
Going back for "a conversation" tomorrow
Is the car using oil? They should mention if they topped up the engine oil, if so, they should go through the flow chart. Could you also take a video of the noise if possible?
I now have the car back after 10 days in dealership.
Touch wood; they seemed to have solved the problem and the car is nice and quiet - as a new car should be
It has been very stressful trying to get this far. To start with you arrive at the dealership with a warm engine and fewer symptoms.
However eventually managed to have admission that there was indeed a problem.
I have been told it was to do with the "pipe work in and around the heat box". this does seem to me to fit the symptoms. It required a major dismantling of the dashboard and components immediately behind it, and cushioning some of the pipes. I was told it took five hours.
I said this sounded to me like a design fault and have Nissan been told.
I noticed on the way home some scratching to the interior of the windscreen! Now pondering this.
