Thanks Daewar, good advice which I shall heed. My daily commute is only 12 miles each way so the car rarely gets a decent run especially in the winter. Clearly I need to plan some road trips

Firstly let’s get the comment from Gloucester out of the way, I called it a “Minor” as to me the “Major” is when the TÜV or MOT comes around. All our Services were done to the book using Nissan Minor / Major Terminology 🙄
I tend to agree with the comments from Daewar regarding short trips and low mileage, this is basically also my approach and worthwhile taking a note, especially when like now here at minus temps. A trip to Lidl now means a round trip 🤨
Just to give you a Guide to the Services, it is all usually stated on your Service Check List after the Service (the one with the Ticks ✅) - Dave 😉

After some negotiation I am being offered a 3 year Nissan service plan for £530 (leased car so no finance contribution available). Seems an ok deal which will save me around £140 on retail price of three services,

Any downside or other ideas to squeeze the price down ?

I'm confused. In the UK a minor service is the due service at MoT time - i.e. three years. The MoT shouldn't make any difference to the service undertaken.

Gloucester 🙄, do you not read what other people post and if you are confused so be it. As I mentioned above what I call a “Minor” & “Major” Service is my decision. The reason I call it a “Major” is because to me “All” of the QQ has to be correct in my opinion for the TÜV / MOT / Emissions and I personally like that the QQ is clean for the Technicians to work on (more work and a once over from me).
Again our QQ is a low mileage one and comparing the last 3 Nissan Service Checklists my so called “Major” has had more checks done. Over & Out Dave 🤨

PS : not that this is a Suzuki Forum but is this the same Service terminology for your Ignis, in just a few words - Thanks ?

I’m not going to argue with anyone on this issue as people will have various differing opinions et. It also depends on your perception as to what constitutes a minor or major service. Added to this you can have other options such as just an oil change, brake pad change etc etc. Some people have the school of thought that you should do an oil change whilst running in a new car, and even every 6 months if you’re doing high mileage. Personally I’m low mileage and at the moment am working on minor/major/minor/major every 12 months. Once out of warranty I change to minor/minor/major etc. It’s worked for me for 30 years of driving. Others will be more relaxed about servicing, just doing it every couple of years whilst some will just get everything done every year to be on the safe side.

If people are asking what the service schedule is then the Nissan recommendation should be given not someone's esoteric alternative that apparently suits them.

If servicing isn't carried out in accordance with Nissan recommendations then you risk voiding the warranty and affecting the secondhand value.

Hence services should generally alternative Minor - Major

I seem to have started a debate that I didn’t intend - at least I am now clear that my three services will be performed yearly ( since I won’t drive 18k in a year), the first will be a minor then alternating. That will satisfy the warranty and lease requirements. I may also arrange a 6 month oil and filter change due to short commutes.
