Did an oil change today and took out 1 sump plug and about 1 litre of clean oil came out. Realising this was not enough oil and after checking the dipstick i realised I had emptied something else. I then proceeded to empty the oil out of the oil sump but have no idea what i have emptied out of the first sump. Anyone have any ideas thanks.

Firstly you have a 2014 1.5 dci according to your other post so that narrows it down a bit.

Haven't a clue to be honest - did you take a picture? Could it be the gearbox?

Thanks for your help. I think you are right and that I have drained the gearbox oil. I have no idea where to begin with how to fill that back up. Looks like it could be a garage job. My nearest garge is a bout a mile away. Do you think this small journey will damage the gearbox with no oil. Thanks again for your help.

Don't drive it!

Sorry but your ignorance of what you are doing demonstrates you shouldn't be doing it!

There will be 1 or 2 bolts further up the gearbox, usually on the side. If there is just the one bolt it will be on the side & will be for filling to full/overspill. If you find 2 bolts, one will be to fill & the other will be for the oil level, full when fluid comes out. You will need some flexible tube to get it in.

I suggest you find a manual as you will need an oil specification.

You need to invest in a Haynes Manual if one exists for your model;
in parallel, some night classes in car maintenance wouldn't go amiss.

All done. Thanks for everyone's help. Was unable to find a Haynes manual but did find the service manual on cardiagn.com. Driven 15 mile since and checked levels and for leaks again after and all appears well. Think will leave this to the experts next time.
