Morning all,
After all the oil level/oil loss problems with the 1.2 Ltr engine why is it so difficult to get an accurate oil level reading off the dip stick. I checked mine this morning and after cleaning and reinserting dip stick upon removing it again there is oil smeared all up the dip stick so cannot get an accurate reading. I also tried removing the dip stick and leaving it out over night to let all the oil drain back into the sump, still the same outcome, so am I doing something wrong or is it a design flaw? Bill

Dafman, you might well like to take a look at this old long post which has comments on what you are questioning, take a look towards the end, it ain’t easy and you have to live with it - Dave

I've found it a problem on most cars to be honest.
My best car for this was a Citroen XM - dashboard oil level readout! If Citroen can do it thirty years ago why can't others?
It was a wonderful car - died owing to losing synchromesh on the gearbox at about 108k along with dodgy suspension - not worth resuscitating .

Thank you both for the info but as been said other times on the forums Nissan do not seem to care after all they cannot even give an idea as to what oil to use, the hand book is very vague. It does not inspire confidence for the future. Bill
