Hello all, new to the forum,
this is the wife's car she's owned for the past five years, its been ok, apart from the DPF issues blocking all the time - which has been sorted now.
The issue I noticed is that the temperature gauge doesn't move from around 1/3 of the way up, and It is my belief that it is supposed to sit in the middle of the gauge.
Checked the hoses in the engine after a good half an hour drive and the top hose is cold to the touch, so my thoughts are the thermostat is now now working correctly.
Can anyone else shed some light on the issue, I've had the same issue with my previous non nissan vehicles and its always been the thermostat.

Welcome to this forum.
My first though was "thermostat" but I see you've reached that conclusion already. I was also going to suggest perhaps the sensor is underreading.
However if a pipe is "cold" that means water is potentially not circulating and that would suggest overheating not underheating. Or is it just "cool"? If the thermostat was stuck open it would be "warm" at least?
Let's let others more technically proficient than me give you a more learned response.

Thank you for the welcome, I'd say cool, but the temperature gauge is not showing the car is overheating. I'd think its the thermostat as I've had exactly the same type of issues on my old MK 4 Golf TDI, each time it was a stuck thermostat.
If it is the thermostat what do people recommend it is replaced with brand wise?

I suspect it doesn't really matter. I've never had to replace a thermostat.

Cold pipe could also mean empty pipe, but that would show increase in temp unless with this colder weather engine is not getting up to temperature.
