Hi I have been driving a 2016 nissan qashqai j11 N-connecta 1.5dCI now for just over a year it has 57k on the clock. Good car but I have a few questions hopefully you guys can answer definitively.
1. Is it a cambelt or chain (I've read the 1.5dci is a belt. is this true?)
2. At 57k miles should I be replacing the belt or thinking about it?.I found a Nissan document online that suggested 54k is the interval but this may be for a newer edition or older edition of the qashqai (j11b or j10). Anyone got any advice here that applies to the j11 2016 edition? I have read a general rule of thumb is 60k. So I am between the two at 57k.
3. Price, I know this will vary. I am thinking maybe 400 to 600 quid but I've never had this type of work done on a car before so it's all new to me. Any advice on what a stupidly high price would be greatly appreciated and very helpful.
Thanks in advance people and sorry if this topic has been done to death i just want some confirmation.

1. Cambelt - the only engine with one.
2. 5 years/ 75,000 miles seems to be the generally accepted interval. It should say in your service book?
3. Upper end of your range seems to be the going rate for dealer change with lower end for independent. I'd go dealer for this crucial element if you've extended the warranty.

Why not take a holiday in Devon (assuming you don't live there already) and get it dealer fitted for £309?

My old Honda Civic Exec, was 16, years old with 50,000 miles on the clock, never had the Cam (Timing) Belt changed.
Your Qashqai will go to 70/80,000 miles without getting it done, British Climate not extreme in heat or cold. Belts do not wear as the do in warmer climes . JMO of-course

Interesting - that's different to most internet sources - but if it says that........
No time limit?

I've now found corroboration:
Qashqai/Qashqai+2:
→08/10:
Replacement every 75,000 miles or 5 years (tensioner pulley must also be replaced).
09/10→:
Euro 4:
Replacement every 96,000 miles or 6 years (tensioner pulley must also be replaced).
Euro 5:
Replacement every 90,000 miles or 6 years (tensioner pulley must also be replaced).
... and ...
Early models renew the timing belt (every 75,000 miles/72 months; Timing belt renewal intervals may be subject to updates and may differ regionally) later models do have extended intervals.
... and for a 2017 ...
Timing Belt Interval Frequency - Months: 60
Timing Belt Interval Mileage: 90000
... and from a Nissan dealer ...
We recommend that you change it every 5 years or every 90,000 miles, whichever comes first. If you leave it too late and the belt fails, there is a high probability of major engine damage and your car could require a new engine.

I notice it requires both the "Timing belt and pulleys" AND the "Drive belt and pulleys" are replaced at 60 months/ 90k miles.
I read one tale of woe where someone had had the cambelt replaced but not the drive belt and Nissan refused a claim when the cambelt broke because the drive belt hadn't been replaced.
This is the first time I've come across this requirement. And it's not just the belts but the pulleys too. Must make the 5 year service VERY expensive!
