Qashqai 1.6 DIGIT-T 163 Tekna

Hi All, The EML has come on. (orange)
Friend of a friend connected up his bit of kit to find the error code and its come up with front 02 sensor and front 02 sensor heater circuit .
Like a lot of people money is tight and the car is not under warranty.
I am certainly no mechanic but want to have a go myself, tried to find a Haynes manual but there doesn't seem to be one.?
So what are the correct parts to get and where on the vehicle are they located?
Whilst I am no mechanic I am pretty handy and have done small jobs on my cars over the years but obviously don't want to do anything thats unsafe.
(Nissan are talking telephone numbers to do this)
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks John

Haynes book is due out this month on the haynes site. 02 sensor is normally attached to exhaust looks a bit like a sparkplug with wires comeing from it . You may be able to see it if you pop the bonnet up and look at the front pipes

Was/Is the engine running rough?

O2 Lambda sensor ...heated:

Its screwed into the exhaust pipe system. Its an electrical sensor so you should see the cable coming off of it: Somebody may come up with an engine system diagram?

Looks similar to this: https://www.bestpartstore.co.uk/exhaust ... ai-j11-j11
This is a non OEM replacement and I'm not advertising this lot.

I have replaced 02 sensors on BMW with NGK (japan) types and spark plugs. Good stuff.

Heres a generic picture of the system from NGK. Appears they don't make them for J11 QQ...pity. Some engines have two O2 sensors - before and after the Cat Converter so check for that.

I should add that that the O2 sensor is a "lifed" item and in my experience needs to be replaced at about 60 - 70k miles. It suffers intense heat for one. Some car manufacturers change them at scheduled service times. Nissan has no mention of that amongst its Major and Minor (preventative) maintenance schedules. However, BMW does ...for example.

The CO2 function sensing part is difficult to test. That is not a moving part so should be long lived, but it is controlling a voltage level to the ECU.

However, this sensor is electrically heated to get up to correct operating conditions quickly etc. So its quite possible the heater part has failed.
That alone would give an error. I'm not sure if that is separately fused as the diagrams are not available? It should respond to a resistance test anyway...either resistive or open circuit?

Is the engine running poorly now? A faulty O2 sensor would cause the ECU to over fuel the cylinders. Too rich
