OK I know this sounds like a dumb question.
I have decided after many many years to get a oil filter wrench /socket.
So I check the filter measurements and it’s 76mm overall dia. 74 mm across the flats and 75.5mm across the points.
What size removal wrench/socket do I need?
Are they determined via the overall dia , across the flats or across the point.

AND PLEASE DO NOT SAY USE A SCREWDRIVER.
many thanks in advance

We have 1 In work, we have a large kit though cost a bit of money but this would be ideal for you though

Beware though original oil filters have the notches and flats where as some aftermarket oil filters that fit the k9k engine just have flats so sometimes the tool is no good if you go fitting aftermarket oil filters. Hate it when one rolls in that's had an aftermarket oil filter spunned on

RVW, I assume you are referring to the Std Type Oil Filter Cartridge (have not changed one for years good old Nissan). See if the attached helps you - Good Luck Dave 😉

Thanks for your reply.
You have a valid point there.
Just been looked at car and it has a filter with dimples.Whereas the replacement I have has flats🙄
Have to decide now, do I struggle to get the original off or go and buy an OEM filter and buy the tool with dimples???
Why oh why don’t they standardise on design.

Thanks for your reply.
Have looked at the one in your link and they don’t seem to be available here. Also the reviews aren’t brilliant.
Would prefer the socket type

We use the tool for the original filters because we only use the original filters but when we do come across one with flats we use the adjustable claw type removers like this one

Thanks again.
Think I have sorted it now. Took the plunge and ordered both types of wrench fluted and flat.. Already had a Bosch filter ( flats) and car is fluted (OEM) so it was a choice of buying another filter or two tools. Two tools seemed to be the better option. Now geared up for what comes next time
