Hello wonderful group of people and thank you for accepting me in the group!!!

I am new here and I hope some nice fellow will be able to help me with a clarification.
I'm driving a 2017 4x4, 2.0l engine MR20DD (J11) CVT transmission and I need to change the timing chain on it.
Now, the car was assembled in UK and sold in Ecuador, where it's difficult to find OEM parts and very expensive due to importation taxes. My older son lives in Toronto and he is telling me that Nissan sold so many QASHQAIs in Canada, including the 2.0 liter 4x4, MR20DD engine. He will be able to buy a timing kit (part by part) from any Nissan dealer in the area.
My question is:
Could anyone tell me if the parts sold in Canada will be identical/interchangeable with the original parts installed on my car......in other words, do you think the engines have the same specs, no matter which part of the world they were sold?
Your input is really appreciate it.
Thanks a lot

Welcome to this forum. That model wasn't sold in Britain - the J11 was max 1.6 here. Canadian Qashqais were made in Japan.

I don't know the answer to your question but I'm wondering why you need to change the chain. Have you reached around 180,000 miles?

Did a quick google and the MR20DD engine appears common, so timing chain should be ok, have a google yourself to make certain as there is also a MR20DE. There are also some Youtube videos of chain replacement.

Thank you Gloucester and thank you Qashowner for taking time to respond to my post.
The reason I need a chain kit is a pronounced rattling sound right in front of the engine. The car has only 115,000km but I'm afraid that I can wreck the engine if I don't change it.
I got the same feeling that all MR20DD engines share the same timing chain, regardless where they were assembled or sold.
My next question:
Is it also recommended to change the oil pump, since I'm already there?!

When carrying out any major job on my cars, if there is anything easily replaced without costing major money in parts, I replace them as well. The pump is not a cheap item, have it inspected before replacing it.

Hi Qashowner,
Actually, it was in mind to ask if it's a good idea to change the oil pump's CHAIN and tensioner......but I edited something else.
Thanks a lot for your advise.

Always replace the tensioner with a new chain, the tensioner may have flexed beyond it's limit on the old chain. Brought up changing my 1966 Mini timing chain twice, didn't change the tensioner first time, oops :D
