Hi All,
I’m new to the forum and I am posting this so that I can hopefully get some help from members for my 81 year old dad who is struggling with an issue.
On 5th June 2024 my dad had his car serviced by Nissan just like he has around that time every year since purchasing the car new. At the time of service the mileage was recorded at around 35,500. After driving the car for a month after service took place and with around 35,700 miles on the clock the car started hesitating and idling incorrectly. With the help of this forum I suspected that this may be an engine fault - this has now subsequently been confirmed by the Nissan dealership who want £7000+ for the repair. I have logged a case with Nissan customer services stating low mileage, regular servicing and no previous fault and I’m expecting them to come back to me tomorrow with an update on my complaint.
I have however been checking through the service invoice my dad has and I’m a little concerned that they have maybe put the wrong oil in the car which has potentially contributed to this issue. On the handbook which I found a copy of on this forum, section 9-2 say that when replacing the oil filter 5W40 should be used whereas on the invoice and checklist it shows the filter has been replaced but they used 5W30. If they come back and say that they will not help because of the age of the car should I complain about the oil used during the service as a potential contributing factor for this issue?
Just to add this car hasn’t suffered from any type of oil loss etc that others have mentioned in other posts on this forum.
Thanks,
Rick

Checked one of the old service invoices from a year ago and they have used 5w 30 on that service as well. Currently waiting for their diagnostic report to come through
Spoke to the dealership their engineer has said that
“Number 1 Cylinder Valve has a chunk missing out of it and as a result needs a replacement engine”
I got a reply back from Nissan Customer Services that as it it was over 8 years old they wouldn’t help as suggested.
There is however another angle I’m pursuing with the dealership via Nissan Customer Services. When my dad first took the car into the dealership with a fault he was told it was spark plugs that needed replacing. After spark plugs were replaced at a second visit whilst they were handing the car back they sold my dad an extended Nissan warranty. My dad took the car thinking the issue was resolved and he had warranty for any future issues. A couple of days later he took the car back in as the fault was either misdiagnosed and not repaired correctly or it’s a different fault. The dealership have then claimed on the warranty but it’s been rejected by the warranty company as they believe the fault was present at the time the warranty was taken out. My question back to them is they had the car, repaired it, then sold dad a warranty so they either missold the warranty to him knowing the fault was still there or there was no fault and they should be in a position to confirm this with their warranty company

I think insurance may be correct that the fault started happening on the first visit when sparks were changed.
But we will never now for sure that was a case as no one checked engine throughly enough but changed sparks instead.
