Dash rattle
My car has been totally rattle free until I went down a road in North Yorkshire full of massive serious potholes. I have now discovered a rattle that seems to be coming from the passenger far side vent which is annoying when going over bumps. I am not sure if something has shaken loose as shoving it in makes no difference. I will try and investigate this weekend, unless anyone has any suggestions of where it is coming from.

Yup.It's a common fault.Likewise the door cards are equally weak in that regard. There are several possible fixes on the forum.Give the search facility a whirl it should bring them up Tend to be worse / more noticeable when the car is cold.If it's anything like mine you'll find the drivers window rattles/wobbles when partially open also (haven't found a fix for that).Edit: Jon there is a screw that holds the vent into the dash (behind the endcap). It works lose and once it comes lose it won't tighten up sufficiently to hold again.I managed to stop it with a felt pad (for under sofa "feet") but i have to replace it from time to time when it loses it's resistance to "squash".

Nissan no more...
Thanks Richard, I have looked this afternoon the screw is tight and I have already put some foam behind the end cap so that does not move. I could not find anything loose so I will keep playing about with it.The pothole I went into must have been 8 inches deep, so bad it partly threw out my nearside AlloyGaytor which I had to knock back into place.I am loath to get dealers involved as they pry things off and refit often making them worse, so I will keep fiddling around unless someone comes up with a fix....Jon

I can sympathise with you driving a car that rattles. If the engine and road noise were high it wouldn't be as noticeable, but it can be very irritating, especially if you start concentrating on it. My family Fiat Panda went through phases of having zizzes and rattles from its dashboard which I never got to the bottom of. My Land Cruiser is now getting on a bit and is on its fourth windscreen and has developed quite a few speaks and groans in the dash plastic over the years. This annoys me more because up until it was at least a dozen years old it was absolutely tight and rattle-free.Luckily all my current cars that are under three years old are quiet and refined. That includes the Ford Ranger pick-up and the 2007 one it replaces was good in this respect too. I do hope that the Qashqai remains as good as it currently is for a very long time. There must be some element of luck in that prospect with most vehicles.
probably not related but i had a rattle from that side and found it to be the cover on the extreme left of the dash (where the airbag sticker was), put a little bit of double sided on the bit of it i thought was rattling and hey presto

Thanks for your reply, I did this fix over a year ago and made exactly the same suggestion. The rattle is something that the pot hole shook loose as there was nothing there before. I played around last night tightening screws putting additional foam etc. I will be testing out on a proper run out tomorrow

After being driven around with my head touching the dash, door etc. I determined the rattle was coming from the passenger side air vent. I removed the screw behind the dash side cover pushed some foam between the parts and re-fitted the screw, but the rattle was still there, driving me mad.So I took the drastic route of spraying some clear grease onto all the moving parts of the vent and after the propellant had evaporated and cleaning off all the excess, I was driven around again, and would you believe.....no rattle. Over the weekend I drove 180 miles without a sound, so it obvious this is where it was coming from. I thought the biggest test was driving home last night after a the car had a day in the full sun with full heat on the interior, again not a sound, so hopefully it is cured.
